Title: SR: Autoroute-style Road Nav App
Post by: Foxdie on February 10, 2004, 03:13:30 am
I actually posted something similar as a reply to another thread but that doesn\'t appear to be going anywhere.

I am looking for some software for the Zaurus (preferably for the 640x480 C series, but I can live with 5x00 versions) that\'ll give me directions from A to B on the UK highways (or US with UK maps). Something similar to Microsoft\'s Autoroute 200x would be fantastic.

There was some basic vector style software that I saw (zRoadmap rings a bell but i\'m unsure) but a). that had no UK maps, and . it\'s visible appearance was equivelant to looking at someone knitting.

Although it\'s not a requirement, GPS features would be good too. I\'d love something like the system currently available for the Ipaq called TomTom (www.tomtom.com (http://www.tomtom.com)) but I\'m not picky.

Actually, this is a better home for it.

I have managed to plan my route using autoroute, export the resulting map(s) (complete with route drawn in green) and using the locate button in autoroute you can get the gps co-ordinates for he top right and bottom left of the map before you export it.

The maps can then be converted to png and loaded onto the zaurus.
import the maps into qpegps adding in the co-ordinates for the two corners, and you then you just follow the green line.

It cannot be automated, as getting the co-ordinates is a manualy process.

Like I mentioned, its only good for pre-planned routes.

I have also managed to get qpegps plotting the free uk speed camera database onto the maps as well.  This is ongoing and not finished yet, in fact I haven\'t touched it since I got my 760, but I wil resurect this at some point.
