Title: Disable Screensaver?
Post by: daniel3000 on November 18, 2005, 08:03:29 am
Hello,

is there a way to complete disable the screensaver on an SL-C3000 / Cacko 1.23beta1?

I have installed the LUS Screen Saver util, which allowed me at least to increase the timeout to 30 minutes and then show nice fish instead of the boring clock after some minutes.

But it makes no sense for me at all to have a screen saver (and for the TFT screen it doesn't as well), so I'd like to deactivate it completely.

Is there a way?

Thanks
daniel

hmm, probably install the ipk's then uninstall it, have you tried that yet?

I can't remember the file off the top of my head, but it has all the light power settings.  I think it was qpe.conf.  You can edit it to say 0 which disables it.  The caveat is everytime you open the light and power applet, it overwrites your file.

hmm - is there any point I have missed in having a screenssaver on a device like a zaurus with TFT screen?

If it was a screen saver asking for a password, I would understand it, but a simple screen saver does not make sense on a PDA with TFT, does it?

...
you are right. in ~/Settings/pqe.conf there is the entry
[Screensaver] / Interval_AC_Screensaver = x

and if you set x to 0, the screen saver is disabled.

Any way to modify the "valid" range in the light and power settings application to include the 0 as a valid value?

Thanks

daniel

You are correct.  TFT LCDs do not have burn in and therefore screensavers are more eyecandy than functional.  A better use is for it to blank the screen and turn off the backlight.
