Title: Unsoldering Smd With Hot Air
Post by: guylhem on November 18, 2005, 02:21:54 pm
Hello

I'd be interested in learning about devices used for SMD soldering/unsoldering at home.

I'm looking for a not so expansive solution for home hacks - like upgrading memory, cpus, etc.
Links to manufacturer websites are welcome

Chinese maker Aoyue their stuff is often badged by others. Not top of the range but I use a 968 and it does most of what I need in terms of hot air and soldering.

http://www.aoyue.com/en/products.asp (http://www.aoyue.com/en/products.asp)

Seriously slow site like most Chinese ones.

There is a German seller that shifts a lot of these on eBay, his prices are about average for the products, you will not save a lot by searching for others.

I think I saw something on hackaday.com about making a hot air torch for desoldering smd stuff, will look it up when I get home.  That site is blocked here and I really don't want to by pass it right now.

Found it!
