Hi,
I installed the release candidate for 3.5.4 including a 2.4.20 kernel. For networking I understood I would have to have a 2.6 kernel.
Can anyone please tell me how to upgrade the kernel via ipkg and SD-card? Desktop with 2.6.14 (up and running) wants to connect but right now I don't get any meaningful messages when plugging in. Just that a device connected with ID but no name strings and so on...
On Z side I found out that except from loopback no networking is up. But all the interface services I tried failed when starting manually.
Please help

Networking should work with any kernel. Take a look at the usb howtos pinned in this thread, and on the openzaurus.org website.

You can't upgrade (easily), you need to flash a new rootfs as there are lots of differences between the two afaik.

What kind of networking are you talking about ?
On my SL-C1000 with 3.5.4RC, networking works perfectly with a wifi CF card.

You may be interested in knowing I have tested the installation of a 2.6 image via CF (I generated the image using bitbake and al.), but it failed to boot with various errors, so I'm not sure the 2.6 kernel is ready for the 3.5.4 yet for SL-C1000... but so far 2.4 was not so bad, for what I have tested. Or this is a problem with the way I generated the image... the docs in the devs wiki is not really explicit in this respect.
My 2 cents,

Hi,
first many thanks for your answers... and my apologies as I forgot the most important part :-( .
I tried to configure networking using the usb cable... My bank account not really recreated from the zaurus' purchase so no WiFi on the horizon yet.
When plugging in the cable into the zaurus I only see in /var/log/messages of the desktop that an undefined usb device came up. Nothing about that this device could be a zaurus...
When looking on the zaurus in that situation I see that no networking service is working. No usb0, no usbd0, nothing.
When trying to start one of these services the startup always fails. I looked at the OpenZaurus Documentation for usb networking but IMHO there's said that this only works with a 2.6 kernel on the zaurus. And that's why I'm asking that stupidly ...
