Title: Nand Backup & Service Menu On C3100
Post by: Fnord on November 26, 2005, 10:55:56 pm
Thought I would post this as I spent several hours trying to access the Service Menu
of my SL-C3100 running pdaX 1.1.0 RC12 (akita) in order to perform a NAND backup.

After putzing around with removing the battery and/or toggling the battery cover
lock switch (to no avail), I found I can get the service menu by simply pressing
"d" and "m" keys simultaneously after issuing a "reboot".

If anyone knows how to get the period key to work in non-X/console, I'd
appreciate the info (I'm off to play with  /etc/sysconfig/keyboard/kernel.map).

Thanks for that. I had a whine about this a little while ago and eventually simplified it down to remove battery, hold the D  & M then insert battery at which point the service menu willl appear. Good to know that in fact it is even easier than that!

I couldn't help thinking that someone, somewhere is having a laugh for concocting such convulated instructions that requires an octopus to perform

Please note this is not a dig at TriSoft. I thank them for making the recovery roms, translated roms, and translated manual freely available even to those who didn't buy their machines from them. But please amend the manual so that people can try the easier methods first!

Strange, I'm pretty sure it "just works". I've got a number of apps running on my Z right now and don't want to go into console to try, but I would've thought that having used rc12 for over 2 weeks now I must have at some point or another used the period key in the console and if it didn't work I would've noticed.
