Title: Kde-pim In Pdaxrom
Post by: david_dahan on November 27, 2005, 07:52:47 am
I like pdaxrom but pim application are unpractically slow in pdaxrom (68 seconds to have ka/pi up and running with 550 contacts) compared to 18 seconds in Cacko ROM 1.23 (instantly in fast load mode).
I'm wondering where is the overhead and if there is any way to make response time reasonable ?

thanks,
David.

I think the problem is that there is no "fast load" mode in pdaxrom.

So you either have to keep all kdepim apps running all the time or wait until they
are started.

Try to switch "fast load" off under your old Qtopia based ROM and you'll see starting of
kdepim apps is slow, too !

Uwe

I suspect 2 things:

- qt3/x11 is heavier than qt2/qt/e (it might depends also on how qt is compiled)

- though I don't know how  this works,  I could be totally wrong, I think that in sharp roms the qt libs are allways " loaded", while in pdaxrom it might not be the case as there are not so many qt applications.

rmrfchick has suggested to use prelink to speeds things up, but compiling prelink for arm seems to be a bit tricky...

in icewm/rox, a minimized app becomes an icon, so you COULD run kopi continuosly and conveniently....if that helps.
