Title: Can A Serialio Sharp Serial To Db9 Cable Originlly
Post by: neuroshock on December 01, 2005, 06:27:59 am
I just read through all the posts I could find on the subject.  It seems that using a Serialio  Sharp proprietary serial ---> USB cable is not a good idea or will not work at all, but will a Serialio Sharp proprietary serial ---> standard serial DB9 cable work without problem or damage?  I'm wanting to use it for my networking switch and router for a management connection and want to make sure before I do something ignorant like fry my new C3100.

Thanks a bunch.

Sharp stock cable (CE-170TS) works. Also you can use USB to serial converters, most of them should also work OOTB under Cacko ROM (I have ATEN UC-232A)

I'd personally suggest to use USB to serial cable, using Sharp serial cable is not officially supported.

Great!  I hadn't even thought about using a converter from usb to serial.  That should easily do the trick with the least amount of mess.

As always Maslovsky, thanks a bunch!

usb to serail will eat power
the serial port you see is not for customer use and is IIRC CMOS (3.3 V only) ie suited for bluetooth but don't kook it to a pc without a MAX233/232 voltage converter

Well I've hooked up the stock Sharp CE-170TS serial cable to both my SL-6000L and my SL-C3100 Zauri and have had no problems hooking them up to my PC's serial port to access the serial console. Nothing fried, nothing died though I've heard other people talk about the serial port on the C3100 not being usable for certain things but so far I haven't had any issues whatsoever. *shrugs*
