Title: Gnomesword
Post by: cs_jacky on December 04, 2005, 09:10:17 pm
Gnomesword is compiled. You need to install all the ipks belows and libcurl in the feed.

I installed all the packages but i am missing libgnomeui-2.so.0

what ipkg provides it?

This libgnomeui is needed (http://212.10.30.205/rc12/Zaurus-7x0-860/feed/libgnomeui_2.10.0_armv5tel.ipk).
Additionally, gnome-keyring (http://212.10.30.205/rc12/Zaurus-7x0-860/feed/gnome-keyring_0.4.2_armv5tel.ipk) is needed.

It seems to work fine when started under the root account. It crashes on first start on a console under a normal user account with
Code: [Select]
The Application "gnomesword2" has quit unexpectedly.

You can inform the developers of what happened to help them fix it.  Or you can restart the application right now.
and no other  error messages. A restart does not help.  I have not symlinked my home dir.

Suggestions?

I had it.
And a reinstall did not help either.
Are you running it as a normal user?

Have you installed any books? They go in or link to /usr/share/sword

Look here: http://www.crosswire.org/sword/modules/ (http://www.crosswire.org/sword/modules/)

Unzip at least one of the raw-zip texts to /usr/share/sword and you should be in business.

Sword modules are installed. Otherwise it would not have started under the root account as well.
Code: [Select]
[lax:0:/home/svetlin> ls -l /usr/share/sword/modules/texts/ztext/kjv/
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root          324 Dec  5 10:25 nt.bzs
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root        82460 Dec  5 10:25 nt.bzv
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root      1394167 Dec  5 10:25 nt.bzz
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root          468 Dec  5 10:25 ot.bzs
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root       241150 Dec  5 10:25 ot.bzv
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root      2160876 Dec  5 10:25 ot.bzz
[lax:0:/home/svetlin>

I ended up copying and editing ~root/.gnomesword-2.0/settings.xml to my $HOME. For now it seems to start and operate normally -- I still don't know what it was although I suspect permission problems (again).

BTW, I am starting it from a shell, as there are no icons/shortcuts on the (matchbox) desktop and panel -- I suppose this is normal, cs_jacky?

I was looking forward to the package but the jungle of deps seemed scary...  thanks.

There should be one in "accessories" menu. Actually, you need not to install any bible to start Gnomesword. It failed to start because it cannot create the settings.xml.

For those cannot start gnomesword at the first time, download & save the attachedment to your home directory and run the following commands:
1. cd
2. tar xf gnomesword-cfg.tar

Gnomesword should start now. You can download bible books, dictionaries, etc from Gnomesword.

In my installation there was a small problem with /usr/share/applications/gnomesword.desktop beginning with an empty line -- which needs to be deleted.

Could you please  advise about a good way to install/link the sword modules to a SD card for all normal users -- so that these modules could be used after a reflash with a new RC (and reinstall of all other needed Gnomesword-related ipks)?

Thanks again.

The gnomesword.desktop works fine in my Zaurus (I am using Xfec4).

The only way to keep sword modules from reflash is to create a ipk for the bible data. I have created ipk for sword modules in unstable feed. Take a look at them.

The extra line in the desktop file was removed and the ipk was updated.

Much appreciated!

I've noticed the install of the sword-modules ipk to /mnt/card created symlinks to the actual files (not dirs) from /usr/share. This is not very convenient as subsequent remote installs of further modules write simply to / (which gets full very quickly).
For now, I simply manually softlinked /usr/share/sword to /mnt/card/usr/share/sword, but is it possible to implement it in the ipk? Or is there perhaps a better way of installing the additional modules to a sd card?

Updated gnomesword_2.1.1_armv5tel.ipk and gtkhtml_3.0.10_armv5tel.ipk to fix:
1. the crash on startup when there is no configuration data in .gnomesword
2. the crash when typing characters the studypad

Anyone download the ipks before this post should download and install these 2 packages again.

Should I expect this to work on my C1000 under Cacko?

What about JSword?

Thanks!  doc

I don't think it works with Cacko because it requires X and GTK. JSword requires JDK 1.4 but we don't have JDK 1.4 in Zaurus.

I read the following re. the C3000 here: [a href=\"http://www.daniel-hertrich.de/zaurus/zps/]http://www.daniel-hertrich.de/zaurus/zps/[/url]

# Jeode (evm)

# J2SE from Blackdown

      see also http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/custom.html#java (http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/custom.html#java)

# installing the IPK:

    * tar -xzvf ..ipk
    * tar -xzvf data.tar.gz
    * mv j2re1.3.1 /usr/local/
    * ln -s /usr/local/j2re1.3.1/bin/java /usr/bin/java

    * chmod a+x /usr/local/j2re1.3.1/bin/java
    * STILL DOESNT WORK!
    * .......

Were it to work might jsword then run or are the versions of java incompatible?

Thanks!  doc

I think I told you that Jsword requires JDK 1.4. Your Blackdown Java is 1.3 only.

I'm sorry, my question was more primitive than it appeared.

I was also asking if the version numbers of the different Java distros matched
and apparently they do if JDK 1.4 and Blackdown 1.3 are incompatible.

Will keep exploring ... Thanks!   doc
