Title: Help
Post by: Tommo on December 21, 2005, 07:55:10 am
Hi just joined today, my av 500 60gb arrived yesterday, read the instruction book and am none the wiser! Do I have to connect to the tv via the docking pod or can I connect direct, as and when I want to record something? Also when I finally get sorted, which button do I actually press on the player to start recording? I have read in other forums that the instruction books are not so good, are the instructions any better via pc? My main trouble of course is that I am 57! I suppose all you young people just get it out of the box and start using straight away. Please keep any replies simple.Thanks.

Hi Tommo, I just purchased an  Archos  AV 700 40GB and I connect direct to the pod. Unfortunately the only way I can record is through my DVD recorder. How I record is as follows. Get the display screen up. Navigate to Video Corder press the okay button and a window will come up stating "Detecting Video" or " No imput Signal" if it is the latter you have to start looking at your connections. If you get a signal you record. One thing which threw me was the recording stopped after 2 hours. I discovered that this was due to my " contextual setting parameters" you reach these by pressing the little button on the right hand side of the recorder and navigate to Contextual settings once you get there the window explains what to do, and how to set up for auto record etc. I hope these suggestions help. I found the built in instructions pretty useless and went direct to the archos website. The other point worth mentioning is that my Archos does not recognise file from my  Windows  Media centre  and today have a post asking if anyone can help me resolve this problem. Like yourself I am in that age group and not technical at all. Regds jc.
