Title: Sl-6000 Poll
Post by: DrWowe on December 22, 2005, 01:05:55 pm: I'm just wondering what people think of this rather.. unusual.. member of the Zaurus lineup, 2 years after its introduction. Personally I love my Tosa and I think the software support keeps getting better and better.

I just wish the ROM options were as good as the clamshell models. When Guylhem finishes his rom. I think it will be even better. Too bad sharp did not realize what a gem they had created. I wish i had the 6000W. I am still saving up to get one.

Post by: nilch on December 22, 2005, 01:49:56 pm: I used it and paralelly to the SL-C750 - and I have to say the 6000 was a very competent machine. The only thing which made me sell it off was the C1000. Once I had USB host on a clamshell model, I couldn't afford to keep both the C1000 and the 6000.

The clamshell form factor was the only reason I sold off my 6000, and even then I regret selling it off, it was such a nice machine.
Performance wise, I still think the 6000 beats any other machine out there - including the C1000 - the screen was superb, the ruggedisation, the overall fell and performance.

Post by: polito on December 23, 2005, 12:09:41 am: Well I started with the SL-5600 and then moved up to the SL-6000L when it came out and now have a C3100. I still have the 5600 and 6000. I love all of them

I have the sled for the 6000 and I had a great holster (was actually for a pair of binoculars) for it but then the holster busted shortly after getting my C3100. I couldn't take my 6000 with me and the C3100 BUT since the 6000 is very, very rugged I've decided to make the 6000 my rough-n-tough field machine. I don't worry about it, it's able to hold it's own and I don't mind scratching up the outside anymore.

I love the Tosa. I wouldn't give it up for anything Upgrading it via hardware hacks now, well that's another matter...

I just wish that there was a gui to use with it for bluez. I am assuming the sharp models with bluetooth have a bluez gui app but perhaps I assume wrong because I have never seen any screenshots of a sharp bluetooth gui. The builtin wifi works great. Opera looks stellar on the SL-6000 screen. It works excelent as a sip phone.

I would pay for a funtioning gui for blueZ and some better gps software. Or at least some gps software that does a better job of configuring connections to bluetooth gps devices. The screen on the sl-6000 is amazing for viewing maps but qpegps does not work well with my bluetooth gps for some reason and the issue is not with the gps. The GPS works great with my laptop and my wince device. So I am sure that I am misconfiguring it. I use GPS software as a tool and so it has to work right the first time with no monkeying around.

I guess as a peice of hardware it is just about perfect. All it seems to lack are some specific applications. I suppose one could start a bounty on the apps that it seems to lack. I havent checked to see if there is a section on the forum for applications bounties.

I just bought an 860 and actually find it better for opie reader than my 6000. This gives me problems now as most of my use is reading and there seems little point in having the 6000 as it is (or seems) so much more bulky than the 860.
