Title: Stardict And Scim Not Compatible?
Post by: desertrat on January 10, 2006, 02:08:57 am
I can't get stardict (http://www.pdaxrom.org/unstable/stardict_2.4.4_armv5tel.ipk) to work when scim is enabled. When run, the stardict splash window comes up and just "hangs" until I kill it. If I disable scim (ie comment out its entry in /etc/gtk-2.0/gtk.immodules) then stardict works fine.

I'm using 1.10 right now but the same problem was there in rc12.

Does anyone else have the same problem or have I just missed a config option somewhere?

My solution is to uninstall SCIM when I wanna use stardict.
In fact ,it is not a good idea.
Is there some one can help us to giive a perfect solution?

Terrible idea  I often have to resort to looking up stuff in the dictionary (so I can copy & paste) when I'm unable to enter the words I need using the Cantonese IM (I really need to learn jyutping someday). So having both stardict and scim working side by side would be great.

I am mildy surprised that nobody has brought up this issue earlier since there seem to be a few Chinese users here. The only "workaround" I can think of is maybe try another dictionary app (qbedic).

I recompiled StarDic 2.4.4 with RC11 SDK.

It works fine in my C860 with SCIM installed. Try it. It should work for you.

BTW, qbedic will not work for you as we cannot use SCIM in QT applications.

Excellent, now I can get rid of libstdcxx5-compat.
