Title: Sound Problem, Please Help
Post by: mbaush on January 13, 2006, 06:28:27 am
Hello, I really need some help before I start opening up my SL-C3000 Zaurus.

I purchased my Z a week ago in Akihabara, Japan. I bought it second hand, and found out there was no sound coming from the headphones when I plugged them in. I can hear everything from the speaker, even when plugged in. Oddly, I'm able to hear some static dot before any sound is played (as if the sound channel is open). I was also able to record audio using the same headphones.

I would like to know what exactly happends when you plug-in your headphones, does it cuts-off sound from the speaker?

Is there a system setting to enable microphone mode / headphone mode ?

I'm wondering if reflashing could help ?

Any suggestions ?

No settings required.
The headphone jack works just like in any other PDA: plug in headphone to listen to music; plug in mic to record.

I think you should try reformatting back to the factory defaults and test it again. If it still doesn't work then it's definitely a hardware-related problem.

I did a reset and still the same problem.. I guess I'll have to open the case, but I'm scared of breaking something else.

Perhaps the connectors are not stiking out correctly

you are probably right.  Headphone jacks usually push the contact to disconect the speaker circuit and connect the headphone circuit.

Is there any precautions I should take before opening up my Z ? Anyone had the experience of opening up a SL-CX model ?

SUCCESS !! The surgery was a success !

I played around with the metal connectors, to have them closer to the plug and it works !

I finally have a fully-functional SL-3000 for 42,000 yen!

Thanks for the help guys
