I just got my Zaurus SL-5500 today. It came with the theKompany ROM, and I would prefer to try the Sharp 31.0 or 3.13 ROMs first (later I'll try other ones).
I've never used a Zaurus or PDA before (I've used linux for several years though), so I don't know much about the process of flashing a ROM. I understand that a mistake might result on damage to the Zaurus, so I don't want to do trial and error. Please, don't assume I know how to flash ROMs, that is why I need some help and I'm having some trouble understanding the how-to guides.
Also, I tried downloading the 3.10 update from the Sharp site (http://www.myzaurus.com/ROMupdate5.asp), but for some reason “Install SL-5500 v3 System ROM†program is saying that it cannot connect with the Zaurus (I assume that it needs the Sharp ROM in the Z instead of the theKompany?).
I should add that I installed the drivers and QTopia desktop on one of my computers, and when I stick my Z in its cradle, a new LAN appears (It says "SL Series (NDIS 5)") that is connected, but QTopia doesn't let me Sync. Does that mean that there is a problem with the connection? Do I need to configure QTopia somehow before it can see the Z? Do I need to do some sort of configuration on the Z? (When I press SYNC on the cradle, it gives an error saying "Communication was aborted"). Would putting the Sharp ROM fix the problem?
