I am going to buy a C3100 in a few days but I have no idea of what Wi-Fi CF buy.
I have read the "Wireless Card Support (https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Wireless_Card_Support)" on this forum but I don't know what "Standby/rx/tx ma" means
If somebody can tell me the best CF that supports Managed mode, Ad-hoc mode and/or WEP, and RF Monitor mode (kismet) (this last too important) he will help me a lot.
If it works with all the roms better.
I don't know if this CF wil exist xD
Thanks!!

I'm pretty sure those are current draws when idle, transmitting and receiving. It gives you an idea who will eat up your battery life more.
I have the socket which is decent for battery life, and has a low profile so it is less noticeable when typing. I'm not sure how it does with kismet, but there is some extra voodoo (software reset the card) that is needed to keep the card from locking onto a single channel when scanning with wellenreiter.
I also had the old netgear which was extremely compatible, but was notorious for breaking apart.
-
We havent had any bad response from the D-Link 660w either they seem to do very well here as well as in Germany.

funny that you've mentioned this. i have a netgear and it works great. just plug it in and it works, no problems at all except it is starting to fall apart
i just bought a sandisk yesterday as a replacement

How about Planex GW-CF11X?? I have found it cheap. It works well?
Wi-Fi CF 802.11g don't work with Z?

socket communications has announced a 54g CF coming in february for $99 that they claim (according to press release) works with Linux.
See here:
[a href=\"http://www.socketcom.com/about/press/read.asp?ID=188]http://www.socketcom.com/about/press/read.asp?ID=188[/url]
It's called the Go Wi-Fi! P500
I definitely plan on looking into it.
-
bluedevils is correct. Tx = transmit, Rx = recieve.
I'm tempted by the Socket WiFi card for it's low profile, but now I am not sure if I want to deal with the "extra voodoo" mentioned
Be nice if a WiFi card existed that was as compact as Socket's Bluetooth card

does the sandisk work in pdaXrom? i've had my Z for months, and finally getting a card... i haven't been on the forums in a long time, so i don't know if pdaXrom supports the connect+
thanks
-
The Sandisk Connect+ and Planex GW-CF11X both take a bit of mucking about to get to work, but they do work in pdaxrom. Hostap and (for the Planex card), doing some firmware junk is needed. There's a post somewhere about it.

AmbiCom Wave2Net 54 Mbps 802.11g + b Wireless CompactFlash Card

Anyone tried one of these, yet?
Could not find any info on the Ambicom web site as to the chipset. Sadly they do
not indicate Linux support, don't know if Bill Gates is an investor.
The sole Amazon review was:
"The WL54-CF CF wireless adapter eats a lot of battery and slows down the
PDA's performance. There's no way to turn off the wireless radio when you
don't need it or when the battery is low. No power saving mode, either."

Would you please E-mail her back and ask for some details re. the Linux
compatibility?
Will it require ndiswrapper and the WinXP drivers?
What is the chipset?
Which version of Linux 2.4xx? 2.6xx?
With which Linux distro have they tested it?
What dependencies?
Thanks! doc

Hi,
I tried the AmbiCom Wave2Net 54 Mbp yesterday at CompUSA. Of course it did not work, as expected. But getting that card running would be great.
It's not only fast, but the card is smaller than my D-Link (that for some strange reason stopped operating recently), in particular it is slightly thinner at the antenna AND it is available for 60 bucks right around the corner!
Please, help, that card would be great!

My DLink DCF-660W also stopped responding in my 5500. It lights up and appears to attempt to connect but then nothing. I am trying to connect to a Linksys router. Not sure if there is a setting problem or what but lost patience with it. I ordered a SanDisk WI-FI 128MB Card (CF Wireless B & 128 Memory & PCMCIA Adapter all in one package for $35. incl. shipping) Will sell the 660W to someone who wants to try it.
Sure hope someone is able to get the AmbiCom working with the C1000/3000/3100!

Have you seen or heard any good news re. this card?
I have Cacko running on my C1000 so am hoping the solution supports Cacko.

Googled: http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=5968 (http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=5968)
The AmbiCom WL54-PCI and WL54-PC have TI chipsets, but the WL54-CF has a Marvell chipset.
A Linux driver for Marvell devices has just been developed - http://www.saillard.org/linux/mrv8k/files/ (http://www.saillard.org/linux/mrv8k/files/)
but it is only for 2.6 kernels.
So it probably can be added into OpenEmbedded but who will test it...

I am afraid I am not up to speed on OpenEmbedded, can you provide a "Readers Digest"
summary of what it is all about and who might be qualified to test it?
I have a SL-5500 with what appears to be a defective CF slot and a fully functional
C1000. Are either of them suitable test platforms?
doc

OpenEmbedded is buildsystem used to build OpenZaurus, Familiar and few other Linux distibutions (not only for PDA). So when something is added into it then all distros can use it. We have drivers for other CF 802.11g cards and getting this one to build is possible.
But getting it build is one thing, get it tested is other thing.
I just tried to build it and discovered that it firstly need to port to ARM as now it's i386/x64_64 only So sorry - nothing to test.
-
If you get it built, send it to me, I shall test it
Shall take me less than 24 hours.
-
Currently I do not plan to work on that driver. Why? I have no interes in it - no plans to buy it.

Perhaps you could sell the driver?
Or those who want it could make donations toward your time and talent?
Is there another equally low priced "g" card that already works or for which you
are developing a driver, please?
Thanks! doc
-
I will try to port the driver over the weekend! The card would really rock! Worth the effort....
Edit: Could not make it this week, will try my best during the week...

The P500 card will be availlable by the end of March.
Thank You,

The press release says that it is Linux compatible. I'm assuming that includes the zaurus. I have their bluetooth card and it works great.

Globolus, there's renewed interest in the Ambicom WL54-CF. Did you ever get a chance to work with the driver?
