Title: Newbie Question About Install Non-ipks
Post by: Jon_J on January 19, 2006, 04:24:18 pm
I downloaded the most recent version of QPDF2 from Sourceforge.net
I know it wasn't an 'ipk', but I tried renaming the extension, which didn't work.
WinRAR in windows can 'view' it. So I looked at the latest update in Cacko ROM, and there is a refrence to "Updated unrar to version 3.5.4"
How can I unrar this file (qpdf2_2.3.0_070505a.tgz) on my C3100

I'd really like to use this version, since it's the latest version, and the fact it took me 2½ hours to download it.
I have Cacko 1.23 on a C3100

Thank you for reading this,
Jon

so you do know this is the source code and will have to compile it to be a program

Did you try renaming it to a .tar.gz instead of .tgz?

Indeed, as source code you'll need to compile it first.  You can extract it into a directory by typing
"tar xvzf qpdf2_2.3.0_070505a.tgz" from the command-prompt.

Then, you'll need to install either zgcc on your Zaurus, or else a cross-compiler on your PC, in order to compile it.  zgcc is probably easier.

Or, you can search the web for a pre-compiled version and download that instead.

Yes, I found the "tar" command and it untared about 500 files. It created it's own directories under /home/zarus/qpdf2_2.3.0. there are 3 subdirectories
'arm'
'x11'
'x86'

under 'arm' is/qpdf2/
under that are 115 files/dirctories.

Do I need to "Compile" this "where it is all located" now? and how do I do that?
I'll try "zgcc" since it (TAR) already copied tons of files/directories to my HD on my Zaurus.
any suggestions how to use zgcc?
sorry for being such a newbie, I just learned 2 days ago how to get a screenshot.jpg from a linux machine to my "regular" windows machine.

EDIT:
I made a big "mess" on my microdrive, didn't I?
Should I try to "clean" it up?
I'll wait and see if there are any answers before I do anything else with these files.
Thank you,
Jon
