Title: Cacko 1.23 Full And Linksys Wcf12
Post by: dhas on February 01, 2006, 08:04:09 pm
Hi,

I installed Cacko 1.23 full on my brand new SL-C1000.

I configure WLAN with static IP etc. (without WLAN card in CF)
Then put in WCF12 card for the first time.
Tip on Connect and it connects. OK

Then, when I disconnects and reconnects for second time Cacko 1.23 full is hanging when trying to initialise WCF12, and timeouts after a while!
I can never get it up and running anymore (have to reinstall Cacko, then same again).

dmesg:
CMDCODE_ACCESS failed (res=-110, rid=fd51, len=6)
etc. ....

Any solution?

first try: with zaurus on, remove card, wait 5 seconds, reinsert.

second try: remove card, execute "/etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia restart", reinsert card.

Give-me your feedback.

Thank you for fast reply!

The first method does work sometimes and sometimes not (Waiting 10 sec.).
(I was trying it myself before posting but I must av been to fast reinserting the card)

The second method work most of the times, but I had one situation during testing where I had to experiment myself because pcmcia restart didn't work; I then tried pcmcia stop -> pcmcia start (WiFi card removed). After inserting card I get connection!

It seems to be a problem with deinitializing of WiFi card during disconnecting phase. This problem is consistent. I can never reconnect right after a disconnect. I must always use one of your methods to get connected after a disconnect. Frustrating!!!

Is this problem just for WCF12?

It would be great if you or someone else (Cacko?) had a permanent solution for this!

WCF12 has been working for Cacko 1.22, right?

Thats the same card I use on my SL-C3100 with Cacko Full 1.23 and have had zero issues.  Insert, Suspend, Resume, and Removal all works without a hitch.

I also have no problems using a WCF12 with my SL-C1000 and that version of Cacko.

I have now upgrade the firmware in WCF12 to pk010101.hex and sf010804.hex.

Upgrade went fine, but same result!

I purchased my C1000 from FigLabs. I have no problem with my WCF12 with original firmware and FigLabs ROM version.

Strange?

I will now take a NAND-backup of Cacko 1.23 and go back to FigLabs ROM just to test if it still working there.

I will be back with results.

Cacko use hostap for these card. FigLabs, Sharp, use wlan-ng.

I beleive this is a hostap trouble.

Yes I think you are right. I get this message when connection are up and running for the first time after reboot:

wlan0 (WE) : Buffer for request 8B1B too small (0<13)

This is the only error/warning message after this first connection is established.
google gives only one indication to this problem; driver problems.

This is what dmesg gives during disconnecting:

I don't know if this is related or not but yesterday I installed X/QT and now suffer from this same issue, that as my previous post stated I never had before.  I also noticed that GAIM no longer has menu items which it also did before the X/QT install.  I used Meanie's cramfs images if that means anything.  Will probably re-flash again just to clear it all out again.

Hi, just to say that i had the same issue.
i had the same trouble with Cacko 1.23 full and a WCF12 wifi CF Card. The  thing to do after each connection was to run a script with something like "sidmoraes" tips but with /eject and /insert..
An other thing was the received level that was always full.
I'm back with the sharp rom now, mainly because of this.
I' have the X/QT from meanie installed too. I'll try to find the little script that allow you to do not remove and insert the card for each new connection.

Hi,
have same problems on borzoi with D-Link DCF-660W, removing and reinserting card works - so far- without problems, it's just annoying
how can I replace hostap by wlan-ng again?

Post by: Seb on February 08, 2006, 12:14:42 pm
I'm trying to replace hostapd by wlan-ng on borzoi

first I identified the additional/ missing files between cacko 1.23 and sharp original rom, then I tried to reconfigure hotplug to load original modules (prism2_cs & p80211, right?) instead of hostap, hostap_cs and hostap_crypt_wep, but I didn't succeed: adding module names to blacklist doesn't work, why?

so, how do I get hotplug to load the old modules?
which is the relevant *map-file?
how does hotplug know which *agent(s) to use?
which agent is used for hostap?
what role do *.conf-files (in /etc/hotplug & /etc/pcmcia) play?
where do you configure, which *.conf-files to use and which ones not?
which program calls the *.conf-files?
which program loads the modules?
what could possibly be the reason why /etc/hotplug/blacklist doesn't work?
why is /etc/sysconfig/hotplug missing?
is there any detailed information on the hotplugging process as it works here?

and: what would be the next steps after loading the old modules??

any help is very much appreciated

regards

You'll need to start form here, I think:

http://linux-hotplug.sourceforge.net/ (http://linux-hotplug.sourceforge.net/)

And one more note: pcmcia doesn't use hotplug at all (only USB does), at least on Zaurus with 2.4.x kernel...

oh.. that hint does indeed help a lot!!    thanks!

things I found out:
- to reconnect after disconnecting, "cardctl scheme qpewlan0" and "cardctl reset" work, so you don't have to remove and reinsert card (thanks to maslovsky in another thread)
- in order to stop dmesg-error messages with idle card the only way is "cardctl eject" (confirm?)
- secondary firmware-upgrade to 1.8.4 does NOT help (before I had 1.7.4)

any ideas on how to proceed?
just write a short script to set scheme to qpewlan0 and reset everytime you insert card respectively eject everytime you disconnect from network?
go back to wlan-ng?
or further investigate in which direction?

regards

Check the Prism chipset revision in your card (run hostap_diag when card is resumed). Usere reported problems with resuming in HostAP driver with Prism 3 cards...

once again thanks - but one (maybe in professionals's eyes) stupid question:
are cf-cards (here: wlan) managed by hotplug or pcmcia in cacko-1.23? i understood your note above, that i had to investigate pcmcia. if it is managed by hotplug though, why doesn't blacklist work?
thx

NICID: id=0x800c v1.0.0 (PRISM II (2.5) PCMCIA (SST parallel flash))
PRIID: id=0x0015 v1.1.1
STAID: id=0x001f v1.8.4 (station firmware)

additional info:
suspend/ resume works fine as long as ifconfig wlan0 is up, problems only occur if wlan0 is down

anyone any ideas?

temporary solution - quick and dirty (actually more dirty than quick):
- NEVER use DISconnect
- use eject instead (eject icon provided or cardctl eject 0)
- in order to easily reconnect do the following:
  - write short script "reconnect.sh":
     #! /bin/sh
     cardctl insert 0
  - save to /usr/local/bin and chmod a+rwx reconnect.sh
  - write desktop file for reconnect.sh or copy /home/QtPalmtop/apps/Applications/mc.desktop and modify this (e.g. "reconnect.desktop", Exec=reconnect.sh, Icon=transform, Name=Network Reconnect, etc.)
- sometimes you have to additionally click on "connect" to connect, sometimes it works automatically, i don't have a clue why, does anyone have one?

if there are any better solutions to this problem, that is, if anyone knows of better solutions because i'm sure there are, please let me know (why doesn't this icon stop exploding after clicking it!!??)

Hi, any news about a way to replace hostapd by wlan-ng on cakco 1.23 ?

I just reinstalled the cacko and updated the firmware to
PRIID: id=0x0015 v1.1.1
STAID: id=0x001f v1.8.4 (station firmware)
like seb.
It is not better, even worst, now if i suspend the Zaurus, it reboots (only qtopia ??).

PS : an other little script to reinit the card :

Code: [Select]
#!/bin/bash
cardctl eject
cardctl insert

PS : I tried a belkin BT card and it works quite well with cacko 1.23 :-). But same issue than with the WCF12 : need to extract and reinsert the card to reconnect after a first connection ...
the script above works with the BT CF card too.

Ok, so here is my problem...

When I plug in the WCF12, I get a message "New Card: WCF12 Linksys blah blah"  The little Link light on the card blinks off and on for about two seconds, then goes completely blank.

I then open up NetFront and it asks me if I want to connect.  I say yes.  Then I get a Connection Setup Error, "Cannot find the device card for communication."

I tested in the card in pdaXrom and it worked just fine.

How do I get it working in Cacko?

Any help is much appreciated!

Have you edited the .conf file file yet? From Maslovsky's FAQ on wireless under CACkO 1.22 (which is still valid pretty much for 1.23):

Quote
Q: How to I get my wireless card to be recognised?
A: Check entry for your card in /etc/pcmcia/hostap_cs.conf file. Get details of your card with cardctl ident command. You can remove entries for all other cards so they don't get in your way. Also remember that you need to restart pcmcia after editing config file (/etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia restart)

Getting rid of all the other cards' entries listed in that .conf file helped me enormously. Mind you I don't know whether your card is listed in there ...

Ok.  I feel really bad asking this, but I've honestly tried doing searches of forums and google to figure this out on my own and come up with nothing.  I even followed the instructions on using vi in the How-to and it didn't work.  No one is answering in #cacko, so here goes...

I want to edit /etc/pcmcia/hostap_cs.conf.  So, I fired up QKonsole.  At the $ prompt I type:

Code: [Select]
$ su
# vi /etc/pcmcia/hostap_cs.conf

Then the file comes up.  From there, when I delete something and then press shift+ to save, nothing really happens.  I hit cancel.  Nothing really happens.  I close the window and open up QKonsole to see if the changes had any effect.  Nope.  Nothing changed.

What gives?

I also tried typing:

Code: [Select]
$ su

zaurus login: root
Login incorrect

Huh?

I also tried editing the file in Midnight Commander.  I find the file ok, but then I have no idea of how I'm supposed to actually edit the file from the program.

What am I doing wrong?  I'm sorry if this post irritates anyone.

Many thanks in advance!

Try Zeditor to edit .conf files.
You can find Zeditor at most of the feeds and ELSI (link at top of this page)
Click and hold the icon, then select Execute with root privilage

Ok.  Zeditor is totally easy to use.  Thanks!  I edited the file, taking out all other card entries except for the WCF12, but I still have the same problem.

When I plug in the card, the light blinks for a second or two and then goes blank.  The Z recognizes the card fine.

It can't be the card, because it was working in pdaXrom.

Any ideas?

Edit: Ok, I figured it out.  I unchecked auto-connect and it fixed the problem.  Thanks!
