I got the japanese support for the c31 installad and that could be the cause. Could someone help me figure out what the problem is?
First: Netsetup applet imediately dies when I click in the name field of a network setting. Everything else can be changed and saved. I'm thinking there might be permission problems somewhere because I had to correct permissions of the i18n to get japanese to work. Anyway, I can get the netsetup to run from console as user zaurus and everything seems fine except it can't save changes because it wasn't ran with root privs.
Second: the sharp addressbook application doesn't start. I try it from the console and nothing happens *AT ALL*. Anyone know what could cause this? The other PIM apps seem to work ust fine.
Thanks for any help.

For the adressbook, the Japanese support package replaces opt/QtPalmtop/binlib/addressbook.so. Looks like this replacement file is bad too, like the CRIM files.
Somebody needs to completely redo the 3100's support package (or else remove it from the feed).

thanks. That helped a little. now the address book will appear for a second and then immediately die with the following error in the terminal:
$ sudo addressbook
qeclient_sendcommand(): server child accidentally finished!
$
Well this is really frustrating. I think I will reflash tomorrow and install a different japanese support package this time. Shouldn't the person who made the package for the c3100 test it? How in the world did it make it into the feeds in this state?
thanks again for the help. (I just also found out that netfront doesn't save settings and will crash if I change to a different input, in this case japanese. who knows what else could go wrong)

That probably means your addressbook data files got corrupted.
Go to /home/zaurus/Applications/dtm/ and either delete or replace the files (you'll know which ones from their filenames). Then reboot.

Why don't you get all the replacement files direct from your original ROM and copy into Cacko instead of installing another package. Its more laborious but at least you'll know the source files are good.
But you will have to be very careful and set the individual file permissions/ownership correctly (I hate command lines so I use TreeExplorerQT for such things).

That's a great idea. It's time consuming but I think I'll do that. Do you think someone could create a new ipk file if I posted all the files that I used? So others don't have to go through this. I don't know how to make a package file but I'm sure it's not that hard.

actually, I already made a package [a href=\"http://zaurus.daemons.gr/menaie/build/japanese-support-c3100jaen_1.23_arm.ipk]http://zaurus.daemons.gr/menaie/build/japa...en_1.23_arm.ipk[/url]
that I thought was working ok until you reported all these problems and when I checked, it exhibited the same (so far it is only the network setup for wifi) problem.
I think I fixed all the problems now if anybody wants to try
