Post by: Leinadmx on February 09, 2006, 06:16:42 pm

I sow in the meanie web page:
http://zaurus.daemons.gr/menaie/mirror/myUSBPower.jpg (http://zaurus.daemons.gr/menaie/mirror/myUSBPower.jpg)
There is a Diatec P-Cord which lets us charge and sync at the same time.

It looks really nice, but I can't find an store where to buy one of those.
Could anybody tell me where can I buy one of those??

I bought one on eBay, very cheap and works fine.

But you need to be a little careful with them - they draw power that exceeds the USB spec, that's why the "official" cables don't do this.  Some people say they can damage your USB ports.

Would running it through a powered USB hub somehow save your USB ports from annihilation?

You should not be able to take too much power from a USB port, your PC will automatically cut power to the USB port & display a message saying device took to much power.

I got one of these messages yesterday!

It all depends on the quality of the USB device you plug your Z into and how much current it is going to allow. Some PCs have overvoltage protection whereas others don't. Also, since powered hubs can give more than the standard voltage/current, you should be careful with those so spend a bit more on a hub that has some protection mechanism build in rather than the cheap ones that doesn't care and might fry your Z.

Hi,

I bought one for the SL-5500 from these guys:
http://www.suntekstore.com/pm-cb-lsync-sharpsl5500.html (http://www.suntekstore.com/pm-cb-lsync-sharpsl5500.html)

I bought this one for my SL-6000:
http://www.boxwave.com/products/easyfinder...ssories_501.htm (http://www.boxwave.com/products/easyfinder/buy-best-sharp-zaurus-sl-6000-accessories_501.htm)

It works very well with my SL-6000.  Haven't used my docking station for about a year.

Regards,
Doug

As long as the voltage is 5v, you won't damage your Z.  The main risk is to the USB port on your laptop.  Some computers handle it better than others, I have heard reports of smoked USB ports on some other forums.  They claimed it happened suddenly, even though the cable had been working fine for months already.

The power draw also depends on what the Z is doing.  Recharging with the Z turned off is safer than running with WiFi at full screen brightness.

I would not like to bet on not damaging the Z if the charger doesn't have the current capacity that the Z requires. When you take any power supply to it's current limit and beyond the regulation goes out the window and you could easily damage the Z with spikes or AC that was created by being over the PSU limit.

Can you point to where you read that? I've left my C3000 and C1000 on our USB Sync charger for literally days.

Cheers

nope...It is an old topic around a year ago.  When i was researching for power, i ran accross a topic of usb charger c1000 but i cant find it during the search.  usb to .....

crap.  Maybee i was looking at something reffering to the c1000 not being able to charge via usb..i can't remember and i also tried looking for the topic.

just a warning.  If you do a search on meanie, he burned his laptop and c1000 by accidently pluging in the wrong usb.  ask meanie, hell explain.  He might also know about the zaurus c1000 and usb power.

I can't remember for the life of me.

I bought a y-cable mini-usb/power > usb -A male made for data and power for a psp on ebay for less than 10 bucks.  It works fine on my 3100--just connect the mini connector to the Z's little usb otg port, and the power adapter to the Z's power socket..connect to a desktop usb...and you have a data connection (I moslty use this to tranfer files..or to make the z a crad reader) and a charge. maybe you should look on ebay under psp stuff...
Is this helpful?
