Title: Ubuntu Linux - Cd's
Post by: Jon_J on February 27, 2006, 04:13:34 am
I thought this was really fantastic!
I just found this site from google http://www.ubuntu.com/ (http://www.ubuntu.com/)
There is a link there where you can have the distribution sent to you for free.
You have to create a simple account. (free)
Then when you get your email and sign in, you can order these CD's
They are mailed to your address, with NO postage, NO credit card check.
Absolutely free.
This appeals to me because if I tried to download 5 CD's, it would take me
about 5 weeks with disconnects, corrupt files, ect, ect.

Yep.  Ubuntu is supported by a million dollors donated from millionaire Mark Shuttleworth (he was a space tourist).  He's footing the cost of distributing the software (amoung other things).

I wondered how they could afford to do it. I have had them posted to me free since they first made the offer.

My 5 pairs of disks arrived yesterday. One install CD and one live CD in each packet! I'll spread the Linux love ...

Mine arrived yesterday too. I got 5 packets with One install CD and one live CD in each packet.
When I ordered these, I thought I needed 5 CDs because, when I was downloading Debian last month, it came on 12 CDs
(I only got the first 2 Debian CDs)
