Title: Serial Port For Nokia770?
Post by: ghellman on March 01, 2006, 09:20:40 pm
Any one knows how to add a serial port to the Nokia770. I am trying to debug the device and it is very hard with out any output.

I have noticed an 11 pins conector (pad) in the battery compartment of the device, is their any chance that some of those pins are for serial port?

Here's what I've found via experimentation.

1-2-3-4-5-6
-7-8-9-A-B-

Pin 9 is RxD (Nokia receive input) and pin A is TxD (Nokia transmit output).  These are the third and second pins from the right towards the battery, respectively.

I used the metal shield as a ground.  The outputs are evidently 3.3v - I used a USB-mobile phone cable as described in http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/HowTo/AddASerialPort (http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/HowTo/AddASerialPort) and http://www.i-hacked.com/content/view/66/47/ (http://www.i-hacked.com/content/view/66/47/) to connect to the device.

I enabled the R&D mode and set the serial console flag and connected via 8N1,115200.

I don't know of a suitable connector - I used a couple of stiff wires held in place with electrical tape.
