Title: Qt/XServer questions
Post by: zmike on February 17, 2004, 11:42:33 pm
I got the Qt/X Server working pretty well on my SL-C860, but have a few questions. I got blackbox running and local applications run fine. When I run remote X applications from my Mandrake box, the fonts are wacked - like one menu item filling the entire screen! Any idea why remote windows would be off like that? Also, how do you run it in \"rootless\" mode? I noticed that keyhelper had some problems running with the X Server so I uninstalled it for now. Overall though its very impressive!

TIA,
 Mike

Hello Mike,

which instructions did you follow to get QT/X-Server working? Could you post a link/your instructions here?

Regards

Fabian

http://xqt.sourceforge.jp/download.html (http://xqt.sourceforge.jp/download.html) is the site where you can download the server and alot of software for it. Not much to it.

Download the server, the font file of your choice, a window manager (I use blackbox), gtk/glib if needed and you\'re good to go.

Still have my questions though:

1. How do I run this in \"rootless\" mode?
2. How do I get remote X apps to display their fonts in normal sizes?

I always watch with interest The Cacko X11 effort, but this is more a solution for me. Its analagous to my I-Mac with Aqua and XWindows. I have a good GUI (Qtopia) with XWindows when/if I need it. I prefer mixing the best of commercial and open source when and where I want it.

Hello Zmike,

thanks, I followed the instructions and got it working. I also tried rootless mode but wasn\'t successful but I noticed that it says it is only pseudo-rootless and in experimental state, so it might not be working right now.
