Title: For Sale: Slightly Modified Sl-6000
Post by: BarryW on March 06, 2006, 12:08:25 am
Well I think I'm going to give up on handheld linux.      So I want to sell my Z.  It's in pretty descent shape.  Has had a screen protector on it's whole life.  There is some wear on the screen bezel from rubbing on the hard screen cover.  Everything on it works, the wireless range works much better than normal, due to my mod.  It won't work with a sled now though.  The mod is reversable, and I can do it if the buyer wishes.  I still have the box, dock, cd and manual as well.  I'll also throw in the pouch I use for it.  $400 or best offer.  North American contenent only.

Oops, forgot, here's a direct link to the pics.

Linky thingy. (http://homepage.mac.com/barrywoods/PhotoAlbum37.html)

Does it come with the 1gb cf and 1gb sd cards?  I am very interested in this.  What kind of gains did you recieve off of your mod?

Cards stay with me, for whatever I replace the Z with.  I have a 256Mb sd card I'll throw in though.  I really don't have anything to measure the gain correctly, but now I can connect to my network anywhere on my property.  That's about an acre and a half.  The connector is a standard R-SMA, same as what D-Link uses on it's access points.

How does the Mod look physically....can you post a picture?  I mena since the sled doesn't work anymore, it must have some impact on the appearance of the unit...no?

Thanks.

PS(CHeck out a free image hosting site ...Imageshack, or at least I think that is what it is called!)

? what about that link in his first post?  BTW Barry, sorry to hear that the Z is not for you right now.  I hope you comeback soon.  Maybe tomorrow's announcement might persuade you.

I am sorry to hear you go - but again, maybe "tomorrow's announcement" IS not going to persuade many others to stay with the Zaurus.

But again... one never know what Sharp might really do in the future

I probably won't go too far.  I'm planning on flashing my old iPaq to linux for doing quick and dirty site surveys with kismet.  I'm really liking the specs on the Axim X51v.  Who knows in a year the handhelds guys might have Familiar working pretty good on it.  Imagine opie or gpe with a dedicated 16Mb of video ram!
