I'm torn between these two models. Which would you recomend?
-
I'd recommend the C1000, because it has a faster processor and usb host - and as such you can mod it to include built in wifi/bluetooth.
The C860 is smaller, but that's about all it has going for it.
-
If price is right and affordable - certaily go with the C1000.
You get a USB HOST as a big extra over the C860 - so that means more periphral support - like USB Keyboard, mouse, external HDD, USB Thumb drives, even a USB camera directly to the Zaurus.
Thats is worth the price difference alone.

aren't they both roughly 400Mhz? Though I believe the 1000 has better overclocking potential and video performance.
because it has a faster processor

I don't know exactly why, but the SL-C1000 is definitely faster than the SL-C860 -- more so than you'd expect from a 16MHz clock speed improvement .

The C860 has a PXA255 X-Scale processor, and the C1000 has a PXA270 X-Scale processor. The newer PXA270 is more efficient in code execution. At 312MHz, the PXA270 will out perform a PXA255 at 400MHz in benchmarks. At 416MHz the difference is dramatic.

makes more sense. I thought power efficiency was the only real difference between the two cpu's. That's good to know.
