Hi there,
I'm currently porting my music making software called MilkyTracker (http://www.milkytracker.net) to Linux using SDL and I was
wondering if there are people interested in having a port for Zaurus as well as I recently found
somebody who lends me his 5500.
It will probably take "some" work and I'm only doing it if there are enough people interested in it.
Simply respond to this thread if you think it'll be useful.
Edit:
I've got it working now on the SL-5500. It runs great. I've also created a IPKG package, contact me if you're interested.
Cheers

I would use this software.
The 5500's resolution may not have enough geography for your application though. You may want to borrow a VGA zaurus to do the devel on.
I don't have a lot of free time but I can do some testing on the weekends.

The screen resolution is not an issue. I already have a version of my app running on WinCE (>= 3.0) based PocketPCs running in 320x240 landscape:
Main display:

I would be interested. I could test it for you. I don't have any Linux skills, windoze user.
I would just use it as a player.
I'm running Cacko on a C3100
Does this need pdaxrom, or will it run on Sharp roms?

I'm not yet familiar with the Zaurus environment(s), but I think it's the original Sharp ROM.

Amazing!
I would help test if it ran under pdaXrom.
I would use it to make music. I've used Frootyloops and Reason to make music.

I'd be interested to try this out (I'm using a 5600). Thanks!

Very nice. Definitely interested.

Where is the difference when compiling a program to run on an original Sharp ROM?
I would use it to make music. I've used Frootyloops and Reason to make music.
Then don't expect too much. Trackers and Sequencers are quite different concepts, maybe before using my program you should check out other Desktop Trackers first and see if they suit you. But a tracker is quite powerful if you get used to it.
-
I would also be interested. I used to use a few trackers on the Amiga (Sountracker, then OctaMED), before using FastTracker II on a PC.
I've tried compiling about half a dozen trackers for the Zaurus, but any that did compile were too slow to do much with, because of their floating point requirements. Your project sounds interesting though, if it uses a fixed point engine. Keep us posted with any news.

As you seem to have experience with compiling for the Zaurus and as I don't have access to an SL-C860, will you help trying to compile MilkyTracker for your device? Visit #milkytracker on espernet (http://www.esper.net/) if you're interested.

Just a message to say that Pailes sent me the source and I've compiled MilkyTracker for pdaXrom. I've used it a bit and as it doesn't use floating point the performance is great - I've been happily playing 20-odd track .xm modules with no breakup on my SL-C860.
Fantastic work Pailes

How would I get that to work in Sharp ROM?
CackoLite 1.23
I have no compiling experiance, would the pdaXrom version work in Cacko?

I managed to compile a version for the SL-5500 today and it's running really great. I'm not sure if this binary will also work on non-PDA versions, maybe you can tell me.
-
I've used Buzz tracker for years, and could probably hit the ground running with this. Once I became used to the UI, of course, and any other differences
If I could even manage to install it. I've never once gotten an ipk to install correctly. pdaXrom suggests I update ipkg, but I can't figure that part out. But I digress, enough hijacking for me
Back to talking about tracker lovliness.
**edit**
Okay, I was reading over at the site, and it talked about drawing samples with the mouse... is there a possibility for touch-screen support, at least in the future? Or will I be stuck carrying a mouse in my pocket? Yes, I realize there is a WinCE version

Dan, what did you do about the display 640x480?
I am getting:
"Couldn't set display mode: No video mode large enough for 640x480."
-
that error was when I was in the console, but if I start the X server and open a terminal window, I can run milky <3 <3 <3
And it fits the window well. Time to go play

Glad you got it working - it works a treat!

greetings i saw this about 12 hours ago an have been trying since.
i'm Very Very Excited to play with this, but it seems i will have some time to wait.
i have Xqt installed now and functioning and that is where i get my error messages from.
i have a sl5500 with the sharp rom
i also have a few questions, if anyone could help me:
i reflashed my rom to sharp 313.
should i have flashed a different rom?
depending if it is okay to use the sharp rom..
ive been having terrbile luck finding any compatible libs, is there a feed i could just update from? i cant find libSDL-1.2.so.0 or libstdc++.so.6
i imagine it doesnt stop with those, but i dont know how else to find dependancies.
TIA
-choice
man i seriously cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The IPGK will work on an original Zaurus SL-5500 without any new roms flashed and without any special libraries linked. Just plain SDL but the libSDL-1.2 library is contained in the package. No need to search for any libs.
