Title: Repair FS help
Post by: sedgetone on February 19, 2004, 12:13:10 pm
After trying OpenZaurus I decided to go back to the latest sharp rom on my 5500. I flashed it with the OSPACK and after a couple of minutes it rebooted itself and came up with a shell and complained that the file system was corrupt. It now give me to options
1, reboot... after which it dies and can\'t be started unless I flash it again
2, I get a prompt that comes up like the following

(Repair FS) #

I now have no idea how to fix my poor little zaurus

Help... anyone!!!!

try the \"format\" option in the maintenance menu...

I typed format and it said \"format not found\"

It comes up with the following message on boot:

Couldn\'t find ext2 superblock, trying backup blocks...
Could this be a zero-length partion?
ext2fs_check_if_mount: No such file or directory while determining whether /dev/mtdblock1 is mounted

***An error occurred during
***the file system check
***Dropping you to a shell;
***the system will reboot
***when you leave the shell.
/etc/passwd: root password garbled
Give root password for maintence(or type Control-D for normal startup)

I then goes black if I do the Control-D and dies.

Switch off, take battery cover off, hit the hard reset button (inside the battery compartment), put cover back on, switch back on.

Tried that already but thanks any how. If I do what you suggest lardman it doesn\'t come back on, no matter how many resets or how long you hold the cancel key down. The only way to get any form of life out of it is to try and flash it again with any ROM image; I then get the above error message.

Did you remove the CF card from the Z when booting?

ya, I got it fixed now.  I loaded Opie 3.3.5 on to it. Then loaded 3.10 overtop, removed the CF and it worked

Yeah I am connected to power when I reflash. And then the lights both stay on for like 2 mins, then the lights stop flashing, and then suddenly the screen turns on by itself with a whole mess of error text and the repair fs thing. From there on I can't get anywhere. Thanks for your help. Any other suggestions?

Hehe I sent it to them. They said they couldn't get it to work after the flash for some reason.    Dang it I don't want to slab this up and make a brick wall out of it. Anyone have any inspirational suggestions?
