Title: Samba over WIFI
Post by: BeKind on February 19, 2004, 01:10:44 pm
OK.  I am running Sharp ROM 3.13 for 5500s.

I have noticed that there is an app called \'qtSamba,\' but it only seems to want to use USB, and then only for \'syncing.\'  I am trying to avoid this whole syncing concept, I\'d rather have more control over my files.

I have also seen that I can install ncurses and sambamnt.  What I am wondering is:  Is there a graphical way to navigate Samba shares on my network, or is the best way to use the command line?

That brings me to another question:  what do I have to install to be able to run shell commands?

BTW,  I did run into a file navigator package on the ZSI, called \'file viewer,\' which looked like it could do what I wanted, but I couldn\'t reach the file which was on community.zaurus.com.  Do I have to change my hosts file to be able to access that?  At this point I can\'t even access the complete file system because all I have is that lame doctab thing, so I doubt I could reach that file anyway.

My knowledge is limited but I think I know some of this.
1. To run shell commands you need to install a console/terminal program.  The \"official\" one is \"qpe-terminal\" and an enhanced one (tabbed) is \"opie-embeddedkonsole\".  Both are available on this site under \"ZUG Downloads\", as is
2. qpe-filemanager

There is a howto to let you access your Zaurus via Samba over WiFi:
http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php...0over%20non-USB (http://www.zaurususergroup.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpWiki&file=index&pagename=Samba%20over%20non-USB)

The community site is mirrored on this site. Look at the links on the left of the main page.

With smbmount you could mount a samba share from your Zaurus and browse it using any graphical file browser. I would recommend AdvancedFM compiled for the Sharp ROM: http://my-zaurus.narod.ru/opie.html#filemanager (http://my-zaurus.narod.ru/opie.html#filemanager)
