I've been lookingat all of the OS's that I could trying to deside on which one to boot on my Z. It's between pdaxrom and the Cacko rom. Which do you recommend and why? I'm looking for a lot of variety in applications and some ease of use.

I assume you got a sl-c1000. My advice is to go progress slowly. Get used to the sharp rom and learn what you like or dislike about it. Migrating to cacko after that should not be that hard to do. Cacko is basically an optimized sharp rom. pdaxrom is nice, but I think it is good to understand what the sharp/cacko roms provide or lack to understand what you are getting with pdaxrom. If you are comfortable with linux and do not need your pda for pda use, then going straight to pdaxrom would make more sense.

I would go to OpenZaurus - you got lot of stuff (some more polished some less), kernel which is maintained (not crazy patched) and more.

ceb0610,
I've tried both opie and gpe versions of openzaurus on the 6000 and they *do* have lots of good stuff.

Go with Cacko, then try PDAXROM if you want.
I would use PDAXROM but there is a MAJOR bug with power drain.
Using Cacko, my battery will be at 95% at the end of the day, using PDAXROM, 40%.
Something is really wrong there.

This is a known bug in PDAXROM, just search and read about it.

I couldn't find anything searching in "all forums" for "pdaxrom drain" or google for "pdaxrom power drain"
Are you sure you aren't talking about the battery applet/window manager issue currently under discussion?

I'm talking about when I used it. It could've been about a battery applet/window manager issue, I wouldn't know because I didn't spend the time to figure it out. The drain made the device unreliable and I didn't want to risk causing hardware damage and issues down the road.
I remember the developer mentioning he was aware of the issue and wasn't sure how to fix it but was making it a high priority. Whatever the last ROM version was ~ 2 weeks ago was what I was using.
I like PDAXROM more than Cacko, particularly because of development options and OS customization, but Cacko is fine and better than Sharp for the time being.
I will go PDAXROM when when the drain issue, whatever the cause, is resolved.
Hope that solves the mystery!

I found that pdaXrom just synced the microdrive WAY to often, somtime it HD light would come on every 5 seconds when i wasent doing anything
-
I don't seem to have a persistent microdrive sync problem if I'm not runing swap. I will say that the battery meter seems inaccurate and indicates a very fast drain using my ambicom cf wifi in icewm. I don't know what it actually means, whether the app is crazed or my battery has issues or my wifi card is sucking power, or I just expect the batt. to last longer than it actually should under normal use w/ wifi. just thought I'd mention it and see if anyone has any additional info. I haven't really lost any uptime, as far as I can tell. What's normal surfing time from 100% with an ambicom?

There isn't any extra battery drain on pdaxrom, the battery meter is just a bit inaccurate due to the kernel patches not having been applied yet in the older versions.
Also, on the C3000, the harddisk does not spin down when idle, so it uses up a bit more power, but it does not read the disk every 5 seconds.

I guess it depends on everyone's pref & on what they are using now.
From what little I know, I concurr with bluedevils, though.
And if your keen on the USB host stuff, Cacko is probably the better bet vs Sharp Rom--I am finding it the hard way .
