Gphoto support hasn't been added yet, but is likely to follow quite soon.

Gphoto2 support added, connected camera, clicked on "import photo's" and this is what i have :

No fuss, no settings, it just works.
I haven't updated it in the feed yet, I'll let you know when I did it.

Hi,
I've added an entry in the announcement thread about gthumb, but please don't mess that thread up and post comments over here.
Please report success/failure. I had to recompile libgphoto2 to be able to compile gthumb. Could someone using the libs in the gphoto-thread please test gthumb ?
If it doesnt work, there's a lib available on the same page you find gthumb, but the package includes everything (also the dev-part). If necessary, I'll make two packages of libgphoto (normal and dev), but I don't want to upload the same lib twice.

I just intalled gthumb. Two things.
1. It had no icon in the menu.
2. It complained about missing libexif.so.12 when I tried to run it from the command line.
I'll go hunt down the missing lib and try again, but I thought you might like to know.

Sorry if you already knew all of this. I may be misunderstanding the purpose of a feed. I thought with a feed, all of the dependencies would be included in the feed and auto-installed when the package was installed.
EDIT2: Ok, I got it to run, but it doesn't show any pictures. If I navigate to a directory with JPG files in it, I should be able to see the pictures, right?

It did not complain about missing any dependencies when I installed gthumb. So even if libexif was in the feed, it doesn't seem like it would have grabbed it, although having it in the feed would have made it easier for me to get it onto my Z.
I used libgphoto2 from the same feed as gthumb. It complained during the install that it wanted libusb but couldn't find it, however it didn't seem to need it at run time (my 760 has no USB, so I didn't see the point).
It also complained at run time about missing some "high color" icons. It ran anyway, but fixed the error by intalling the hicolor package from the same feed.
So, in conclusion:
1. libexif needs to be added to the feed.
2. libexif needs to be added to the dependencies for gthumb
3. libgphoto2 needs to be added to the dependencies for gthumb
EDIT: 3.1. libusb MAY need to be removed from the dependency list for libgphoto2
4. hicolor MAY needs to be added to the dependencies for gthumb
5. However, all that just gets the program to run without complaining, it still doesn't actually show any pictures. I noticed the end of this poster [a href=\"https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=17161&view=findpost&p=120497]https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...ndpost&p=120497[/url] had the same issue though. Am I missing anything else? Did I use the wrong libgphoto2 package?
Thanks. I don't mind testing if it makes it better in the future. If you make any changes, let me know, and I'll uninstall all of this stuff and try again from scratch to see if it goes any better.

Probably not. I'll have to look. Maybe another good one for the dependencies?
Let me know when you've made changes and I'll test again. I've already removed all of the package I installed for gthumb.

I'm pretty certain that that's not the problem, I have that library installed and pictures don't show. Also following your remark in this post (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=17161&view=findpost&p=120531) I uninstalled gthumb from /mnt/hd and installed into /. Same problem . Weird thing is I'm running gthumb from command line and if there were any major errors I would've expected to see some error messages, but the only thing I see is the usual error about the missing icon (happens on a lot of gtk/gnome programs).
Next step, I'll have to try uninstalling gphoto2 & friends and start again.

1. It had no icon in the menu.
I assume you're using the default DE. The relevant files are:
/usr/local/share/pixmaps/gthumb.png
/usr/local/share/applications/gthumb.desktop
My observations are:
1) the matchbox panel (ie the thing that contains the menu) does not look in /usr/local, thus .desktop files and icons needs to be placed in /usr/share/applications & /usr/share/pixmaps respectively.
2) the matchbox desktop for some reason does look in /usr/local/share/applications for the desktop files and sees gthumb, but then it does not look in /usr/local/share/pixmaps for the icons, hence on the desktop you see an entry for gthumb but it displays a generic icon.

I installed the "hicolor" package from the feed where I got gthumb (http://mail.pdaxrom.org/contrib/Chero/) and it fixed that error.
Yes, I ran it from the command line too, and managed to get it to give me NO errors, but also no pictures.
Let us know if you get anywyere. My re-install didn't help any. I'm waiting now for Chero to at least make changes to the feed, to see if it will install with dependencies, rather than my having to hunt down ipk's left and right with my stylus.

The last one isn't really a lib or app, it just contains some icons.

Most of these are in the main feed, some are in http://mail.pdaxrom.org/contrib/Chero/ (http://mail.pdaxrom.org/contrib/Chero/) and the missing one (libexif) is in the gphoto thread.
@ desertrat : do you have a ".thumbnails" in your home-dir ? If not, does it help if you create it ?

I uninstalled everything and reinstalled, but still no pics
Right now I recompiling the whole kaboodle - gphoto2 & friends and possibly gthumb. If that still doesn't work then I'm going to try gtkam

BTW the reason I recompiled gphoto2 etc, instead of using Merli's (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=17161&view=findpost&p=119539) is because Merli's libgphoto2-devel placed files in what seemed to be odd places and ./configure in gthumb didn't find the files.

You could have used the libgphoto2 in my feed, it has the includes in it, and installs in normal places.

A solution : symlink (or copy) "someplace"/share/idl from the zgcc image to /usr/share/idl

Now you're confusing me
Bonobo.idl already exists in /usr/share/..., but apparently it is looking for it in the zgcc image (ie /opt/native/arm/...). and hence the error when it doesn't find it.
I solved this by editing these two files:
components/image-viewer/Makefile
components/catalog-view/Makefile
I changed the line to :
VIEWER_IDL_INCLUDES = -I /usr/share/idl/bonobo-activation-2.0 -I /usr/share/idl/bonobo-2.0 -I /opt/native/arm/3.4.5-xscale-softvfp/armv5tel-cacko-linux/share/idl/bonobo-activation-2.0 -I /opt/native/arm/3.4.5-xscale-softvfp/armv5tel-cacko-linux/share/idl/bonobo-2.0ie I added /usr/share/idl/bonobo-activation-2.0 and /usr/share/idl/bonobo-2.0 to the path that it should use to look for Bonobo.idl (and other *.idl).
This allowed me to finish the 'make'without error.
Now I'm doing 'make install', and it looks like it's doing all the compilation again, which means another hour or so before it finishes . This double compilation thing seems to be a "feature" peculiar to zgcc - why does it behave like that?

Bonobo.idl already exists in /usr/share/..., but apparently it is looking for it in the zgcc image (ie /opt/native/arm/...). and hence the error when it doesn't find it.

No problem
Anyway, to continue with my saga, even thought 'make' completed without error, 'make install' dies with the following error:
/usr/bin/ginstall: cannot stat `gthumb-C.omf.out': No such file or directory
make[5]: *** [install-data-hook-omf] Error 1
I edited the main Makefile to remove the directories I didn't want compiled (the 'doc' directory is the cause of the above error), leaving:
SUBDIRS = \
libgthumb \
src \
components \
data
This time 'make install' finished. But sadly gthumb still refuses to display any images
I give up. Since gthumb provides a lot of functionality that I don't need (albums, comments), and some that are duplicated by other apps (editing), I decided to write a simple replacement for the feature that I really need - the transfer of images from the camera. So here it is:
# wrappers for gphoto2
CAMERAPICS=/mnt/ide3/Documents/media/work/camera
# get all pictures from camera
function allpics
{
CWD=`pwd`
cd $CAMERAPICS
gphoto2 -P
cd $CWD
xzgv $CAMERAPICS &

A comment I found on gthumb :
The description of gthumb seems to imply that it cannot display the image in 'Folder' mode like in the Gwenview and GQview screenshots.
This is not true. That 'mode' can be enabled via the menu entry View > Show/Hide > Image Preview.
However, I understand why the article writer made that mistake.
I have been using GThumb for more than a year (probably closer than 2 or 3 years) and I am still confused by the system of display modes ( "Folders" , "Catalog" or "Image" ) combined with the multiple ways to enable/disable the image preview , the EXIF info, and the user comment.
For example, in "Folders" mode, there are 4 buttons on the top-right of the image preview:
(1) display the image
(2) display the Exif
(3) display the User comment
(4) disable the Image Preview
It is far too easy to click on (4) by mistake. The result is that the image preview pane is completely gone and must be reenabled via the menu. It took me weeks to figure out why image was sometime disapearing. Very confusing.
Even worse! in "Image" mode, the image preview only has 2 buttons:
(1) Show/Hide a 'double' pane with Exif on the left and the User Comment on the right ()
(2) Close
When you click on (2) which often happen by mistake when you try to click (1) the effect is to return to the mode from where the image was called ("Folder" or "Catalogs").
To be even more confusing, the menu View > Show/Hide can also be used to enable/disable the thumbnails pane and the directory pane in "Folder" and "Catalogs" mode.
I'll check the package during the weekend.

It seems that that comment is focused mainly on enabling the preview image. My problem is that I don't even see any filenames, let alone thumbnails or preview image.
See attached screenshot, it shows gthumb and xzgv both opened on the same directory which contains a bunch of pics (jpegs). As you can see, xzgv has no problem with showing the thumbnails and displaying a preview. But gthumb shows nothing in all three panels (file-browser, thumbnails & preview)

Yes, that is the EXACT same issue I have. Your screen shot mirrors mine. Gthumb just doesn't see any files, at all.
It also doesn't help that the navigation by keyboard seems to be completly obfuscated. I am hoping, though, that if gthumb sees some files, then the naviagation will start to make more sense.
Chero, have you tried navigating with they keyboard? (I hate to bring in another issue before the first is fixed though.)

I absolute love this app, it is very useful. however, i noticed something that is a bit annoying. when you try to delete a file, it seems to mimic windoze and moves it to the trash, but since there is no trash it gives me a warning and asks if i want to delete instead. could that feature be changed to just plain delete?

In [Edit]>[Preferences] uncheck "Ask confirmation before deleting images or catalogs". Then when you delete image for the first time it will ask about the "no trash, shall I delete" thing, then check the "don't show this message again".

Is there a reason why the image editing menu items are grayed out?
I have a jpg selected from my mom's camera.
I looked for documentation and unrpmed a copy of gphoto on my Puppy Linux box, but the documentation wasn't compatible with the help menu item in the Zaurus version.

I thought I just had to select a picture.
Using File -> open, opened the selected picture and all the image editing tools were available.
That's why I tried to use the help documentation, but it didn't work when placed the appropriate files in /usr/share/gnome/help/gthumb/

Yes, it's not obvious at first, but when you open the image you will see they are there . Very good program, btw. Maybe I should update all gtk/gnome/etc libraries along with this one, for beta3 ... haven't done this for soooo long I have so much work, small laptop, and don't use Z often , except for e-books.

Since I couldn't get the help documentation to work in Gthumb, I created a small htm doc that I copied from a website and added some directions for connecting a Zaurus to a digital camera and importing your pictures.
The original help documentation is in XML format with a folder of screen caps of the GUI dialogs. I couldn't figure out how to get those to work/display.
If my attachment opens in your browser instead of downloading, just "save it as" a htm doc in your browser
