I got one working with MAME. Just plugged it in and played with a few command line options till it worked.
I think the version of MAME was using SDL but I'm having a hard time remembering where it was.

Not quite related, but is it possible to compile drivers for an Xbox 360 controller? Noting these (http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Xbox_360_controller_on_Linux), it seems very messy or infeasible. And noting the path (http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/xbox-linux/kernel-2.6/drivers/usb/input/) of the source, it seems that it's for the 2.6 kernel. But it would be nice if it was possible.
Edit: For reference, this (http://www.free60.org/wiki/Gamepad) contains useful info.
