It is really pissing me off. This is a 3100 with cacko rom and it will only show up as a usb drive the firat couple of times. Then it will stop working and dmesg on my linux box will say "Unknown partition table". But once I reboot my zaurus it will work again.
Anyone else have these issues?

try using ssh, my ubuntu system sees 8 hdd's go figure!
or maybe perhaps samba, I got mine connected once but had some issues with transferring files, maybe you will have better luck.

The kernel module has probably got its knickers in a twist - try rmmoding all of the associated modules and then re-modprobe them.
Search for start-net.sh for an example of the modules if you need it, or look at the script which is run by your system when you change usb function.

I too get 8 mounts for the Zaurus on my Suse 10 installation.
Why does this happen ?
Any way to iron out this minor hiccup on the Caco ROM ?

Those are very complicated work arounds and are not worth it. Having to install ssh onto every windows computer I plug it into is not an option.
I should have mentioned earlier that in Windows it will appear to mount and show up in My Computer but when I browse it and try to copy files to/from it explorer either crashes or it locks up for a while and then tells me that the file (on the Z) is not accessable. So Linux AND Windows both have problems with it. The problem is deffinately with the Zaurus.
Perhaps it is a Cacko issue as nilch suggested? I did notice that cacko boot up sequence is very strange (for example it complains about not being able to mount /mnt/cf2 because it does not exist. If I create the mount point then it complains about invalid arguments and as a result my internal hard drive Documents folder will sometimes not mount) The network script is a little funny. Maybe there is something wrong with the usb script?

Yeppers, I get the same thing on my XandrOS box, it's a Debian distro running the 2.6.11 X1 kernel and KDE 3.3.0.

Are you all running Cacko?

Same issue using PdaXrom.

I'm using Cacko too, and have noticed a similar problem.
It may not be the same issue, but I've found that I get more consistent connections to my Win boxen if I change the "PC Link" settings in between every session. For example, I'll set it to "Storage, SD card", connect to a win box once, and then set it back to "PC link" afterwards. When I need to connect as a USB drive again, I'll change the setting back.
The USB drive utility doesn't seem to work reliably multiple times with the same setting. It's not a great way to do it, but it's better than rebooting.

Thanks, I guess that's the best we can do for now. I'll give that a try.
I know that if I change the PC Link settings after it stops working it still does not come back. So I will try your suggestion of leaving it on PC Link and only switching to usb storage when I want to use it.
