Greetings!
I'm a former Pocket PC and Palm user and I just purchased my first Sharp SL-C1000. I love the unit and have no regrets. I installed Cacko 1.23, which is top notch. I also successfully synched with Outlook 2000 on the PC (note it doesn't work at all with 2003).
However there is one problem: I can't find any good 3rd party applications for the Zaurus! After reading extensive reviews on the unit I expected most of the applications found in the Zaurus Software Indexes to be compatible. But 90% of them aren't really compatible, at least in 640x480 Landscape mode. Many of them will crash my C1000, and virtually all of them run in this very bizzarre low res portrait mode, which is awkward to say the least. Working in high-res landscape mode is really the reason I bought the unit.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or perhaps has someone compiled a list of good applications that work in VGA Landscape mode? Notable exceptions are:
SAFEDEE...works perfect in Landscape Mode
CLOVERPAINT...does not work in Landscape mode but its a nice program and good implementation.
I'm looking for a good PDF reader...and not too much else maybe an outliner or financial program.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

What are some of the other apps that exhibit this problem? If they are programs that use the SDL library (for full screen graphics), the problem might be that they SDL you installed doesn't support rotation.

tap and hold on an icon it will allow you to uncheck "magnified" mode. This will stop forcing it to the 320x240 portrait view.

Tapping and holding works fine! Awesome, thank you!

THANK YOU!!!!!!
I too am trying to figure out my SL-C1000. I am confused about what programs and ROMS I could put on here. It runs Qtopia.
Is it possible to install programs on the SD card?
Thanks for posting how to change the orientation...

outliners, treeline=free, I paid for StageOne, it IS worth the 15bucks!
oh, and welcome to your greatest thrill and worst nightmare!

Agreed, StageOne is a must have and well worth the cost.
Also check out TuxCardz, free and excellent. Does things differently to StageOne and, for some applications, I prefer it.
Choice is great.
