Hi.
I have my Zaurus just a few tiem ago and after reading a lot about different roms to install and another software i have decided to leave the original rom and begin to put another software avalaibles like Kismet and many more, after i see this https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Applic...6000L/Sharp_ROM (https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Applications_that_run_on_the_6000L/Sharp_ROM)
i can see that the most popular software and the one i want is able to install it with the original rom.
I have decided to do this because many people has told me that the original rom is a good one for a begginer like me and i have many things to learn before i decided to change the rom.
First i would like to know what do you think about this and if is there anyone more with the original rom still and of course also tryng to know people because i think is good to have any buddie to get some help anytime and in Spain where i live theres only one person i know with this Zaurus model ,so i think i can understand many things with my little English.
Thanks an waiting for your answer.

It depends what you want to do with your zaurus. As stated in that wiki, many of the software for the other Zs will work on the 6000. I am happy with the 6000's original rom, but it is also not my main zaurus.

I use the original ROM and I've been happy with it. I didn't think the benefit of the other ROMs was worth the effort or risk of flashing. For me, the 6000 hardware has been more restrictive than the ROM in terms of what apps I use--it's not fast enough for video or games, or at least not without significant tweaking.

I'm using the Sharp ROM, because it is, I believe, the only completely working ROM currently (I may be wrong about that, but I think that's the current state).
I use the 6000 for work, in a Windows environment (sigh), so I also need the ability to sync to Outlook (sigh).
I also think tinyrooster is not telling the whole story: IIRC, the 6000 actually is potentially faster than the other devices, but it's the software that's slowing it down. Guylhelm has a faster kernel that speeds things up, and the 6000 has the potential for accelerated graphics that are not yet explored.
Have fun...get familiar with the things you want to do with your 6000, then explore.

Interestingly enough, I use the Sharp ROM because my SL-6000 _is_ my primary Zaurus! I use it every day for a variety of tasks, including taking lots of notes (with Zeditor). I use it like a little laptop, more than a PDA. I have a Pocketop IR keyboard, which I also use every day. It has really made my Zaurus into a mean little laptop like machine.
Some of the other uses I use my Zaurus including, photo organizing, war walking, and listening to Oggs, can be found at:

The Zaurus is a great little machine, and now with Meanie's X/Qt cram disks, I can even run X apps like ethereal, nedit, and firefox (don't run that one much, but it can).
Best of luck with your Zaurus,
Craig...

I still run my 6000 with the stock Sharp ROM, and I have since I got it more than a year ago. I had intended on switching to Qtopia 2.1 or pdaXrom when I was making the purchase (Qtopia 2.1 promised to be the bee's knees but fell short), but the stock Sharp ROM has met all my basic needs.
Because I use my Z as a PDA and not for anything so technical as development, I don't see the point in switching to a ROM that might not offer everything the Sharp ROM does -- such as trouble-free support for the built-in WiFi, stability and general ease of use.
