Title: Sl-c3100 Vs. Sl-c3200
Post by: jepjepjep on April 26, 2006, 02:02:49 pm
Are there any reasons why it would be better to get the sl-c3200 over the sl-c3100 (aside from the extra hard drive space)?

I'm trying to decide which one I should buy.  Normally this would be a no-brainer, but I really like the style of the 3100 over the 3200.

Also, because of the built-in HDD, is the responsiveness of the HDD models more sluggish than that of the sl-c1000 (apps and wake-from-sleep).  I used to have a sl-c1000 and before that a sl-c860.

Thanks!

can't comment on the 1000, but the 3100 is a little more sluggish to startup than my ol' 760.  It's not bad.

I believe the 3200 has a few more stock software enhancements (>2gb sd driver for one), but I'm assuming the stock japanese rom is not what you are looking for.

There have been some software improvements, but they're pretty minor and I think they can mostly be transferred to the 3100 as well. I don't actually think there's a big difference between the two models, if you overlook the increase in internal storage. And as you say, the 3100 is nicer looking.

Unlike the 3000, the 3100 and 3200 don't store apps or any part of the OS on the hard disk, so there shouldn't be any problems like that.

c3100 cannot read SD having size more than 1G intrinsically, and not sure whether it support SDIO...

c3200 can read SD > 1G intrinsically, and the speed of running apps is a little bit faster

for the LCD Display , c3200 is a little bit brighter, and c3100 is having a relatively - blue screen, whilst c3200 is relatively - yellow screen....

since the color of c3200 is white, it looks a little bit bigger than c3100 - even though they are the same size actually

( i have experienced both devices together and having these 2 devices on hand now ... )

The difference in reading SD cards is software-
only necessarily relevant if you're running the Sharp ROM.

It would be interesting to see if the screens on the 3200 actually are different,
or if you're just comparing a year-old backlight to a brand-new one-

even if its just that, there's still some advantage in longevity (battery, etc)
in buying a brand new unit, over one that may have been sitting on a shelf for months.

My C3100 was bought 1 month go... (brand new from Japan during my previous Tokyo trip...), therefore this statement should be justified...

for this C3200, this is just my friend asking me to customize it during these several weeks...

based on that env't, i can tell their battery consumptions (owing to my experience on their prolonged consumptions for them during this period) are quite similar.....

send you guys some of my taken pictures (extracted from my blog): -

Thanks for all the response guys, especially the pics dinorex.  This is the kind of discussion I was looking for.

Is the screen bezel on the 3200 white or silver? It looks white in some pics and silver in others.

dinorex:  having owned both, if you could choose only one which would it be?

Thanks.

Side by side comparison, from left to right:
C3000 -> C3100 -> C3200
I got this pic from this forum somewhere, and resized it to 1027x768

Get the C3100 while you can!

I think it looks way better than the C3200, plus you can do an awesome customization mod and make it an all-black Zaurus.

I ordered this (http://www.streamlinecpus.com/store/product.php?productid=180&cat=3&page=1) from StreamLineCPUs.com, had it specially ordered. Stephan at StreamLineCPUs was extremely helpful with my request. I highly recommend them.

I'll post a pic of my Z, later, if you want.

Now, why the heck didn't I think of that? I mean, I bought my 1000 specifically so I could swap cases with the 3000! An all black 3100 is even better! (Except for the screen bezel, which is silver on both  )

Approximately 1/2 hr later, this is my result: (Careful! I'm too lazy to resize these pics!)

Before:
[a href=\"http://www.singlesynapse.com/imagedump/100_0660.JPG]http://www.singlesynapse.com/imagedump/100_0660.JPG[/url]

During:

After:

After again:
http://www.singlesynapse.com/imagedump/100_0663.JPG (http://www.singlesynapse.com/imagedump/100_0663.JPG)

Very sexy!  A couple of weeks back, I managed to put a little dent in the top of my 3100, and it bothered me. No more!

Thanks for the idea!
