Title: Help With Wellenreiter Ii
Post by: VirtusRex on April 26, 2006, 08:21:29 pm
Hello everybody,

First off, I'd like to introduce myself, names VirtusRex and I am the proud owner of a new Sharp Zaurus 760. My frist PDA was a Dell axim x5, then a x50v, and now it's 760 zaurus, which by the way is an amazing pda!

Ok on to business. I recently install Wellenreiter II, but can't seem to find any networks when I scan.

As mention before my unit is a Zaurus 760 running Pdaxrom with a symbol LA4137 wireless card.
Within Wellenreiter, under the configure dialog box I have the following settings:

Name: eth0
Driver: orinoco

Is this the righ setup? Has anybody else got Wellenreiter II working with a Symbol LA-4137 wireless card?

what revision is the symbol card?  Look on the back.  It will be a letter.  Mine is a socket rev K.

Does that card work for normal connections?

Quoted from Jerrybme from https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...8057&hl=orinoco (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=18057&hl=orinoco)

OK, I found that simply copying the orinoco modules from Chris Bryden fixes the problem.

Simply
Code: [Select]
# cd /
# tar xzvf /location-of-file/orinoco-modules.tar.gz

Then pop in your card and away you go.

Code: [Select]
To get the card to go into monitor mode for kismet, you'll need to
# iwconfig eth0 mode monitor

It's the same for Wellenreiter.
I had the same problem but after these changes it's works over here on C-1000 with symbol LA4137 wireless card

Ok, I download the orinoco-modeles.tar.gz from Chris Bryden web site and run the code exactly.

The orinoco-modeles.tar.gz uncompressed no problem, but when I ran 'iwconfig eth0 mode monitor' I got the following error:

Error for wireless request "Set mode" (8B06) :
SET failed on device eth0: Invalid argument.

I have no problem running Kismet, just can't run Wellenreiter. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Thanks for the fast reply guys, much appreciated.

I've also attached some pics of my Symbol card. I can't seem to find where the Rev number is located?

my mistake. I was thinking bluetooth.

is there a commandline equivelant to cardctl ident?

it does look like my rev a card.  I think the newer socket/symbols are more squarish.

One more thing, I'm running rom version 1.1.0beta1, and I noticed that 1.1.0beta2 has some Symbol fixes in the change log:

Changelog SL-C7x0
fixed unresolved symbol in hostap module
kernel updated to 2.4.20
new MMC/SD driver
kernel updated with cacko patches

Should I switch from 1.1.0beta1 to 1.1.0beta2?

Not sure if you must flash with beta2, I can just tell you that I am running beta2 on C1000 and the method I gave you works. Moreover the link I provided is about beta2, so I think it's a good thing to do, you could even flash to beta3 right away.

Sounds like a plan, where is the download link for beta3 package???

Definately you should update to Beta 2 or 3. To get Beta 1 to work with my Symbol, I had to compile a custom kernel without the orinoco drivers and then install Chris' orinoco drivers. No need for custom kernel with Beta2 & 3

Beta 3 for C760:
http://mail.pdaxrom.org/contrib/1.1.0beta3/Zaurus-7x0-860/ (http://mail.pdaxrom.org/contrib/1.1.0beta3/Zaurus-7x0-860/)

Good luck,
Jerry

Thanks jerrybme,

I was able to download the initrd.bin and tools.tar files, but the updater.sh file gives me this message when I try to download it:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /contrib/1.1.0beta3/Zaurus-7x0-860/updater.sh on this server.

Any ideas??

Thanks again.

Yes, this is not a problem, just use the updater from beta1, it hasn't changed.
Cheers,
Jerry
