Title: Gpe 2.8 Status?
Post by: ant on April 27, 2006, 01:19:14 pm
I was reading the gpe-roadmap and it appears very promising:

http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/GPERoadmap (http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/GPERoadmap)
http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/GPEToFixFor2_2e8 (http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/GPEToFixFor2_2e8)

I'm waiting for a ppp-dialer and a unified if up/down applet.

Are perhaps some new bits already in beta?

'ipkg install gkdial' or 'ipkg install gkdial-gnomeless'

and have a look at [a href=\"http://helmsdeep.homelinux.net/~pat/wordpress/]http://helmsdeep.homelinux.net/~pat/wordpress/[/url]

Good to know!
I have only found "gkdial", installs ok (with a couple of dependencies) but then  complains "Your kernel is missing PPP support" and doesn't connect...

BTW I edited the peer and set /dev/rfcomm0 instead of /dev/modem

???

EDIT:

The kernel modules are installed, but there is a new udev quirk:

pppd is unable to open the /dev/ppp device. You need to create the /dev/ppp/device/node by executing the following command as root: mknod /dev/ppp c 108 0

try mailing gpe@handhelds.org, since no gpe developer reads this forum
