Hi-
Just got a new SL5600. I\'ve used Linux for years on m68k, Alpha, PPC,
and x86 so I hope another mental context-switch to ARM shouldn\'t be
too bad...
A visit to the Open Zaurus project pages do not show any rom/app
images available for 5600. Is the code not available, or is thr webpage
just out of date? Also, the sourceforge OpenZaurus page indicates
everything is obsolete- is OZ abandoned?
Also:
- When the \'rom\' is replaced, what else needs to be done to allow the
Zaurus to (just the basics):
- run bash
- be able to use a CF ethernet card.
- be able to mount remote NFS filesystems.
- accept telnet/ssh/ftp connections.
- be able to make remote telnet/ssh/ftp connections.
- I am comfortable with shells, but is there a decent GUI
available? I would expect there to be very large tarballs containing
lots and lots of libs and GUI config files, but I have not seen them.
I really don\'t want to kill this little guy through an unsuccessful
brain transplant if i can avoid it.
I am a software developer would like to use this machine for
datalogging, network sniffing, audio-recording as well as some
C/C++ software developement. I\'d like opinions- should I take
the plunge and replace the Sharp setup/kernl or keep it \'stock\'.

There seems to be an unstable branch version of an OZ rom available for the 5600, but it doesn\'t have the updater.sh file with it. I tried flashing it using an updater.sh file from a different rom, but I was left with a rom that wouldn\'t boot. A rom you might want to check out is Zynergy5600 which is what I\'ve now switched to after using the stock Sharp rom, the tkcrom, and my attempt at flashing OZ. It\'s based on the Sharp rom and is pretty nice. The download site for it has a number of handy network apps with it, and you can pick up the other stuff you need from the Zaurus Software Index.

Hope this helps.

I prefer tkcRom over Zynergy. I can\'t stand the non-working GUI Installer on Zynergy. That\'s just me though..

I only had a couple of quirks with the gui installer. One with libcrypto, and one with gnu-utils. I was able to get around them by doing a command line install making sure I did su first.

hi-
After reinstalling a different \'rom\' image, has anybody been able to cross-compile a kernel from the sources?
I\'d like to have ALSA support for a PDAudioCF S/PDIF CF card (which is supported by ALSA).
