I'm considering an upgrade to one of the SL-Cxxx units from my SL-5500. I've been using a 256MB SD card as my "Hard Drive," and I could happily continue a similar tradition.
So, what I'm trying to decide between is this:
An SL-C1000 with a 4GB high-speed SD card almost always installed as the "Hard Drive." (here's such a card: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetai...tCode=82502-19) (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=82502-19))
--or--
An SL-C3x00
What I've ID'ed as pro's and cons already are:
-SL-C1000 + 4GB card is still about $100 US lower than a SL-C3200
-SL-C3200 has 2 more GB
-I lose/use my SL-C1000 SD port, and use the power supplied to it full time
What I have little clue about though, is the following:
Does the SL-C1000 + SD card route end up with lower energy consumption?
Does the SL-C1000 + SD card route end up with higher speed?
If yes to both, I really think I'd prefer that path, despite it not being "the best" I can get right now. Does anyone have other factors they can think of that I should include in my evaluation?
And here's a crazy idea, that seems a bit more readily useable than the current efforts to solder in USB accessories:
Is it possible to treat a SL-C3200 like a SL-C1000 by removing the microdrive, and if so, could I then use the other slot for misc peripherals like a Bluetooth card? I could possibly splurge for something like that.

If it helps you decide, as far as I know, C1000 will not work with SD cards greater than 1GB.

I thought that was a software issue that was resolved recently... it's actually a hardware limitation?

its no hw-limit, it was software, and it's solved. Someone posted an updated driver package with the sd-drivers from the C3200 [a href=\"https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=18523]here[/url] which halso work on a C1000. IIRC in OZ and pdaXrom they are using opensource drivers that also support big cards. I'm happily using a 2GB SD with my C1000.
