Just a couple questions before I make the purchase. I'm thinking of getting the sl-c3200.
Where can I get one for cheap with fast shipping?
What's the best wifi card?
Can I watch internet tv on it?
Can I listen to internet radio?
What else can I do with this device?
Sorry if these questions have been asked before. I'm just trying to get an update.

Where can I get one for cheap with fast shipping?
For sure, Pricejapan (http://www.pricejapan.com) is the cheapest($586 shipped to USA) and fastest(2 business days).
What's the best wifi card?
The smallest, the cheapest and the one that requires less power is the Symbol Spectrum24($40 new on ebay) or the Socket one but they have a quiet short range and need little tweaks to work in monitor mode with PdaXrom(you just need to untar a file found on this forum).
The best supported card are the prism2 chipset based one.
You can read Wifi CF card Wiki (https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Wireless_Card_Support)

Can I watch internet tv on it?
I don't think so
Can I listen to internet radio?
If I remember well it is possible
What else can I do with this device?

I'm told there is a shoutast program (it even has the word shoutcast in the name), but I haven't checked it out yet.

Hmmm. I thought that if I installed xmms I should be able to listen to live streams such as bassdrive.com. And internet tv is just streaming media. Opie Player 2 should be able to handle that, right?

I don't know about opie player 2 but with Kino2 on cacko I'm able to watch internet-tv and can also listen to streaming radio. I tried with xmms on my old SL5500 with OZ/Opie but somehow it was not able to play back live streams. But I don't know if this is fixed in recent OZ/xmms-versions.

I listen to internet radio just about every night using Shoutcast Player and Cacko 1.23 rom.
Do a search on the forums for Shoutcast and you'll find instructions.

I'm not as close to ordering as the thread founder, but hope to by month end.
I'm still wondering if a laptop might not be a better choice.
I'd like to use it to:
read PDF's - OK
View digital photos, slideshow -OK
play music -OK
wireless websurfing -OK
can it also handle these additional wants?
write scripts (bash, perl,PHP)
Compile a usb kernel driver at OLS

I just save the playlist file somewhere, then I open it with Kino2. The direct loading of the playlist from the server via "Open URL" doesn't work, it has to be saved on Flash/Card. This is on Cacko-1.23-lite with Kino2-0.4.3c

thanks that did it! I was using open URL as previously that was the only way I could get it to work. I was also saving my playlist to hdd3, but I could definitely play it using the sd card.

for me the best wifi card was a prism 2.5/3 card which runs in hostap mode and therefore does WPA
mplayer, using kino2 as front end, will play internet radio - just open the URL mms://x.y.z/stream
I would *guess* it would play internet TV *IF* you can get the right codec. People have managed to set up a linux server to transcode video streams using VLC and stream them to the Z.

Hi all,
very interesting to hear about inet radio. Where can I get this shoutcast player for download? I tried the cacko feed, no shoutcast player. Is it possible to record music too in this way? That would be great!
Additionally: Is there a way to play wmv9 videos? There are several online TV recorders available (e.g. www.OnlineTVRecorder.com) which provide the records in wmv9 codec. I still did not find a solution to convert them into a Z playable format with acceptable quality.
Thanks for your great ideas, have a nice weekend!

You can download a shoutcast player / recorder package from our website at

or, simply browse www.shoutcast.com, save-as the playlist/url, then open it in kino?

I did not mention that I don´t want to record shoutcast streams only. There are some "normal" radios out there (e.g. Deutschlandradio (http://www.dradio.de). They send frequently audiobooks and other "spoken" stuff which I want to record. It is normally provided by a m3u-link which I can download first and then open it with Kino2, that´s true. But no chance to record.
Wouldn´t it be great to record audiobooks with the Z (best way would be a cronjob for that) in a legal way without p2p them? Does anybody know a solution for that? I think about a small tool like Winamp with Streamripper-plugin...
greetings from dresden!

on a "normal" (PC) linux box you can use streamripper to record the most internet radios, but I don't know if someone has compiled this for the zaurus (I couldn't find it on elsix).

hey, cool! Any sites to recommend?
EDIT: ok, saw the [a href=\"http://www.onlinetvrecorder.com/]http://www.onlinetvrecorder.com/[/url] link ... any others? Thanks!

The OnlineTVrecorder.com (http://www.OnlineTVrecorder.com) is just like a netbased videorecorder, no TV stream. There you can record TV in wmv9 files (1,5 hours ~500MB). It is an acceptable quality if you can play it on a Windows PC, but converting them into a Zaurus readable format will result in a to much visible lost of quality.
Does anybody have experiences with converting from wmv9 to a Zaurus format?
