Title: Oz On Poodle, First Impressions
Post by: CoreDump on May 09, 2006, 02:53:55 am
- Device freezes when pressing "Cancel" to suspend. Suspending via menu works fine
- The colors in the VT are all wrong (altboots "new password" wizzard should have RED text, not green, and the normal VT text is supposed to be white, not dirty brown)
- A not-so-standard OZ 3.5.4.1 image freezes on "update-modules" on first boot, ouch

- OE does not have a virtual/kernel setting for Poodle lol (the default is correct however)

3 out of the 4 problems are kernel 2.4 related. Kernel 2.6, here we come

If you let go of the cancel button in less than 2 seconds it works

Thanks for taking a look at our poor poodle... I really miss the cardfs in 3.5.4

I don't think that anyone is working on Collie / 2.6 currently. And even if that were the case, it is very very unlikely that someone will manage to write a working SD driver.

A Collie w/o SD slot is unacceptable with its ~14Mb onboard storage....

I fear that Collie is stuck on 2.4 for good.

Kergoth was making some noises about writing an SD driver for collie after he finds the pdf again.

I guess all hope is not lost then
2.6 on Collie would rock in many ways.

Well, can you give some hints about 2.6 on poodle?
What does work, what not?

And I can build the kernel simply out of OE?

In due time I plan to provide Opie test images.

For that I need NAND backups of
a Kernel 2.4 installation for PXA250 and PXA255 Poodles (cat /proc/cpuinfo). A vanilla OZ 3.5.4 install would be perfect.

For certain reasons which I will explain at the release day I can not install a kernel 2.4 image on my Poodle right now.

The NAND backups are a security measure without which a test image is not possible.

So if anyone could lend me a hand here it would be appreciated

I already understand why.

I have a NAND for the PXA250, and there is a link to one here on the forum somewhere. I wish I could send you mine... but it would take a very, very long time on my dial-up. I must go away for now, but I will look for the link tomorrow. If you really need one... let me know and I will go to a public library and send it to you.

Here is a link for a NAND (SYST5600.DBK) made from a PXA250. I know that two users on this forum have used this file successfully to repair their poodles.
http://www.galacticslacker.com/zaurus_sl5600.shtml (http://www.galacticslacker.com/zaurus_sl5600.shtml)

You will find some instructions that I have posted in this thread... if you would like to use (or modify to use) them on your site, or wherever you place the NAND dbks.

If you make a request on the openzaurus-users mailing list you will find a PXA255 NAND... I don’t believe there is any difference, but I can’t be positive.

Thanks a lot Greg   I already have a PXA255 NAND, but w/ a kernel 2.6 image which is quite useless as you can imagine heh

I'm thinking about collecting NAND backups for all Zauruses, the first one is here:
[a href=\"http://hentges.net/tmp/NAND-Backups/]http://hentges.net/tmp/NAND-Backups/[/url]

@all: Keep in mind that a NAND restore should only be a last resort.

I've managed to create a NAND backup for PXA255, so the way is clear for some test images
