Title: Cacko Rom 1.23 For Sl-c3200
Post by: maslovsky on May 09, 2006, 04:26:40 am
Hi Everyone!

I got myself a 3200 device for a few days/weeks to build a version of ROM, which officially supports SL-C3200.  You can download current build here:

http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/c3200/SL-C...-2125070506.zip (http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/c3200/SL-C3200-Qtopia-1.23-2125070506.zip)
http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/c3200/SL-C...-2125070506.md5 (http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/c3200/SL-C3200-Qtopia-1.23-2125070506.md5)

http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/c3200/SL-C...-1654160506.zip (http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/c3200/SL-C3200-Qtopia-1.23-lite-1654160506.zip)
http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/c3200/SL-C...-1654160506.md5 (http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/c3200/SL-C3200-Qtopia-1.23-lite-1654160506.md5)

The main difference from the "unofficial hack" is that 3200 kernel is built on Sharp's official sources, which have some minor changes in NAND flash handling code. Also your model version should now be reported properly in Sysinfo

Let me know how it installs and runs. PLease, report problems in this thread.  Note that this is exactly the same 1.23 version as was released for older devices before with everything you love and hate.  A work on hotfix or probably new version will start  after I release a version for SL-C3000 (yes, I got myself a C3000 too, for hardware experiments

Regards,
Anton

Forgot to mention - the SD driver in this ROM is also old (doesn't support large SD cards). Feel free to install updated driver package, which is floating somewhere around.  I will update the driver in the next build/release.

Roger that!

here are just a few problem.
1. sysinfo displays total memory=63791kb, temporary=10240kb, and i see no internal memory information so this one is missing the sysinfo does not display my internal drive.  i did a df in the konsole and and displays my home(mtdblock3 as 91135 with 27700 used).  Nice amount of onboard memory for programs....thanks anton.
2. overclocking the z locks me up randomly, causes screen flicker, whitens and blanks out the screen.  NOT recommended.
3.  I dont understand mirror in settings.  Doesnt do anything for me.

Major problems:
cacko-lite 1.23 does not install. says error not compatible with sl-3200 or something.

good note,
1. bluetooth is awesome in this thing.
2. video playback is awsome.
3. search through the default phonebook is alphabatized which is a plus over the jap conversion.  the sharprom, you cannot scan through files or addressbook alphabatized.
4. wireless monitor is good addition.
5.

ill post more as i go along.  so far its stable.  I havent tried uninstalling yet.

I have a question.
1. where did my other 60mb internal flash go to?  it's reffering to to problem number 1
2. The internal memory of the sharprom has a temp, what is the difference between the cacko temp and the sharprom temp.  which one eats up more and would i burn out the lifespan of the internal cacko temp over the sharprom?

Cresho,

can you try overclocking and see if you have the same problems I report in this thread (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=19016).

I'm interested in seeing if this actually works.

The over clocking and under clocking works. but it randomly locks me up.

yes i read your last post and was aware of it.

I will be porting over the few zaurus themes for the cacko.  Ill start off with redoing the current one since i never liked it.  then ill do noia and the oslinux one.

1. sysinfo displays total memory=63791kb, temporary=10240kb, and i see no internal memory information so this one is missing

That's a known issue in sysinfo program (actually in Qtopia libraries, but that's not important) on 3100/3200 devices.  It wil be fixed in Hotfix A, but not in this release.

Quote
2. overclocking the z locks me up randomly.

I noticed that too. I think the problem is that the new CPU revision (there IS a new new CPU revision on 3200, look at the CPU tab in Sysinfo) is less tolerant to overclocking or maybe needs larger voltage when overclocking.

3.  I dont understand mirror in settings.  Doesnt do anything for me.

This an application for IO-Data CF VGA card, which mirrors Zaurus screen to the external VGA

Don't know about Sharp temp, but Cacko's temp uses tmpfs filesystem, which doesn't use internal flash - it grows and shrinks in RAM as needed.

cacko 1.23 lite does not work.  says it cannot install cacko rom on sl-c3200.  This is the one i wanted to really try since it gives me 100mb free memory and i can install what i want..

now i understand the sys properties.  Nice!  very nice added bonus.

I am almost done with the 4 themes for the cacko.

porting over..

oslinux
gant
noia
one more which im debating.  ill post pictures after.

I have a C3200 & plan to use Cacko when Anton releases the final version.

Can I just backup hdd3 prior to upgrade & then restore it, I did not want to risk losing any of the Cacko seetings if they were stored on hdd3.

I assume that data on hdd3 wiill be lost when I upgrade?

running cacko 1.23 on the 3200 is fine.  Just those items i mentioned before are problematic if i decide to overclock.

just read up ontop for my problem list #4

also posted pictures of zaurusthemes running under cacko 1.23.

They are very very big just because of the extra icons installed to accomodate any newly installed programs and tab configuration applied to icons.  I really don't know what to do but i'll just leave them alone.

No, internal hard drive is not touched with Cacko ROM install.  You can just do an NAND restore if you want to go back to Sharp ROM.

Thanks for reporting - I forgot to update the updater.sh in the Lite version. New Lite package has been uploaded:

Enter new root partition size in MB (32 recommended, 121 maximum)

I thought it was 19.  This might need updating.

i entered 19 anyway

SL-C3200-Qtopia-1.23-lite-2203110506.zip installed with  a root partition size of 19 just fine.

one thing though and i know this is a known issue, when entering personalized info, it stops booting unless i press next.     i was waiting for 5 minutes but i figured i just push next since lite does not have pim installed by default.

the task bar icon which holds which cards are installed has a small problem but i am not sure ifyou wanted it this way, you have access to the internal drive and you can unmount it and loose the internal drive.  rebooting it puts it back in or mounting it again from terminal works fine  "eject card 1 ata/ide fixed disk"  the compact flash is known as eject card 0. the cacko full does not show this behavior

so far, i have not lost any information on my internal drive.  reflashing cacko has not lost any info on internal drive.  This is a plus for me since sharprom always whiped my drive out after a reflash.

this next one i am not sure if it is both cacko lite and complete but the cf card stays in slot and after a reboot, it dissapears.  it is still mounted though.

Just installed Cacko beta on my C3200 after Cresho saying hard disk data not lost. (Yes I did spend 3 1/2 hours backing up just in acse)

Everything went well with the install but have a few problems:-

StageOne does not appear to load properly, when I load from the console I get the following error message.

Qt/Embedded data dictionary is not owned by user 0, Aborted (It loaded without any problems using Cacko 1.23 on my C760 & on the stock ROM.

I have 3 USB drives, stock Sharp ROM recognised 2 of them Cacko 1.23 only recognised 1 of them.

Any help would be apreciated.

Also I thought disk access was a little slower than stock Sharp ROM.

nEW PROBLEM

Not enough storage memory for installation.

that is what it says when trying to install madbomber to sd card.

--------------

update, it may be related to the the 2gb sd driver i put up.  Works fine for 2gb sd but problematic for 4gb sd cards.

Loaded Cacko 1.23 for C3200 & managed to get it to work with my 3 USB memory sticks, after I realised that I needed to suspend when changing stick.

I have to use Konsole to mount any SD or CF cards in my card reader which is a pain, can I use Meanie's C3000 automounter to automate this?

They are standard FAT partitions on the SD & CF cards, straight out of my 2 x Canon IXUS cameras, as I gave up trying to mount the cameras.

I have to manually mount using:-

mount /dev/sdc1 /mnt/usbstorage -o umask=000

Groped around for a couple of hours before I got it to work, used fdisk to identify sdc1.

The problem is that Qtopia doesn't report internal flash filesystem among others on 3100 and 3200. I'll have to get information about it manually, but that's beyod the scope of 3200 ROM port, it will be hopefully fiex in a Hotfix.

the compact flashcard does not work when you reboot.  you need to mannually eject it and mannually place it back in for it to work again.  it is mounted but it is not shown in file manager as a mounted drive.

The automount only mounts devices as read only, any way to automatically mount them as read/write?

Found a very compact optical mouse with 2 USB ports along the cable, mouse & USB ports work well with the Cacko ROM.

they usually get mounted ro instead of rw if they contain errors. a fsck should fix that. did you yank your disk out of your windoze box without using the eject applet in the window taskbar by any chance?

Thanks Anton & Meanie for your response.

Windows reports that they are FAT formated, probably have pulled them out at some time without stopping them in Windows, can't remember every time.

Running Windows error checker now but very slow.

Hope to get this all sorted before I go on holiday, so I can transfer pictures from camera SD/CF cards to my Zaurus, then backing them up onto the USB sticks.

Plugged all 3 USB sticks into Windows PC & run the disk checker with the option to fix any problems ticked. They also all reported as FAT rather than FAT 32.

Just tried to copy a file to one of then & got the following error 'Can't copy 0601_1902.png'

Tried a different file to copy & another USB stick & the same problem.

fdisk reports stick as W95 FAT16, can't see anything which says if it is mounted as RO.

Did not get any response to my previous post so I pocked around a bit more, it would appear that the Zaurus thinks there is an issue with physical & logical endings, what ever that means:-

Physical/Logical Endings

Phys=(253, 254, 63)
Logical=(254,245,55)

See attached screen dump.

Any idea what is wrong, if so how I resolve?

looks like the partiton table of the stick is somehow corrupted. I think you need to recreate the partition on the stick.

Thanks seiichiro0185, don't have this problem with my other USB sticks so I will try reformatting.

Did some more checking to find out why I can't write to USB sticks when the System Information facility shows it as mounted as RW. Found out that this is only a problem with the built in file manager as TKCexplorer allows me to write to my USB sticks.

Anyone any idea why the built in file manager won't let me write to USB memory sticks???

Hi All - I got my beautiful C3200 this week and have been having fun with it. While installing Kino it forgot how the touch screen works so now I'm looking to fix it (any ideas??). One nice "fix" would be Cacko 1.23 but it won't install (as noted earlier, rejects 3200 as wrong model number). I'm too much of an amateur to follow the updater.sh hints given earlier :-( Can someone point me to a ready-to-use Cacko 1.23 for 3200 image? I'd be eternally grateful!!
