They somewhere said that it is a proprietary (non GPL) embedded Linux. I.e. not open and neither Qt nor GPE. So, it is something to experiment with...
The device includes QVGA touchscreen, quadband GPRS, GPS, SD-Slot, Bluetooth and WLAN. Uses TI OMAP 200MHz. Available End of June. Their recommended price is approx. 349 EUR.
If there is enough demand and interest, we could consider to add it to our Handheld-Linux shop. What do you think?
Nikolaus
PS: here is a German language thread discussing the device: http://www.telko-forum.de/viewthread-98-10-last.html (http://www.telko-forum.de/viewthread-98-10-last.html)

Granted, it's relatively cheap considering the hardware. However from a developers point of view, without any released kernel sources it will be like porting Linux to any other device, which means it'll take years. That makes it pretty uninteresting for me. For a user, this phone may be just cool, but don't expect it'll be possible to run your own applications.
Given that the openezx project (Open Linux for the Motorola phones) seems to make great progress, I'm considering buying a A780 and adding support for that into OE.

it does sound like an interesting device... but I agree 100% with Mickey, they've got to make it as open as possible, so as to make it trivial to roll your own kernels and provide documentation for *all* the hardware, not just a few binary modules that only work with their special kernel.
if they did one with VGA or even just the Palm 320x480 display it'd be a zaurus and HTCUniversal killer!

uhm.... yeah.... not being open source is a real no-go for me too. what a pity ....

you guys must be kidding???>>!!!!
Look at cingular and verizon ripping people offf for ringtones and backgroundimages! They wont make it open at all.
