Hello.
I have a C-1000.
1. I installed Cacko 1.23
2. I downloaded X/QT Jumbo to a CF card
3. I opened the .ipk on the zaurus, it said "installing"
4. The zaurus hung
5. I restarted it. Upon restart, zaurus reported the package installed and i had a new menu and new icons
6. want to install firefox. can't install ipk from pdaxrom feed.
help?
-
Think you need to re-read (or read if you haven't yet) info on Meanie's site about X/Qt and using apps....
You don't use apps from pdaXrom feeds...even if you install Meanie's pdaXqtrom file....
You need to use the apps that he compiled for X/Qt (or pdaXqtrom if you installed that one instead...)
In the meantime, try from Terminal or Konsole window:
$ xlauncher firefox
If it was installed hopefully it will open up after a minute or so....
HTH,
Mark

its a headache.
do this. list the stuff on what you would like to do and ill post info on how you can get this running. I had a c1000 and space is important.
-
Of course I've read Meanie's site, but it doesn't make any sense if you aren't familiar w/ linux. I am in the process of getting to know linux, but I'm not there yet. I wish there was a "type this, do this, type this" step by step method. I wonder why someone hasn't made a backup image that already includes X/QT ? I don't know what a cramfs image is. Could someone explain that?
It sounds simple to list -
Cacko 1.23
X/QT
FireFox (to do websites that opera / netfront won't)
Gaim (QPE-Gaim has been giving me trouble)
XPDF (to read pdf problem sets. qpdf2 doesn't list equations properly)
AbiWord (nice for typing things up)
Scite (the pdaxrom text editor?) (to do any programming/scripting)
Nothing too demanding.
I have a 1 GB SD card and a 32 mb CF card. I can use a 256 mb CF card for installing stuff, but it won't be there permanently (digital camera).
As long as I can get sharps player to handle mp3 and aac, I don't think i'll need Xmms.
Thanks,
Louis

okay!! sounds very easy. ill post something up.
Right now, i am looking at installing xqt into my main memory and running crams or squashfs out of the internal drive. I am going to head over to all of meanie's mirrors and see if he has any updates before i get started installing in a bit.
ill be posting stuff here and updating this thread as i go.
meanie has updates coming in a few days so wait.
but here is the typical install process for the older stuff.
this is how to install:
--------------------------------------------------------
1. Go to this site and download these files.
http://www.thegrinder.ws/Meanies_XQT/cram/java.squashfs.zip (http://www.thegrinder.ws/Meanies_XQT/cram/java.squashfs.zip)
http://www.thegrinder.ws/Meanies_XQT/cram/...ps.squashfs.zip (http://www.thegrinder.ws/Meanies_XQT/cram/xqt-apps.squashfs.zip)
http://www.thegrinder.ws/Meanies_XQT/cram/...bo.squashfs.zip (http://www.thegrinder.ws/Meanies_XQT/cram/xqt-gtk-jumbo.squashfs.zip)
http://www.thegrinder.ws/Meanies_XQT/cram/xqt-install.sh.zip (http://www.thegrinder.ws/Meanies_XQT/cram/xqt-install.sh.zip)
http://www.thegrinder.ws/Meanies_XQT/cram/...la.squashfs.zip (http://www.thegrinder.ws/Meanies_XQT/cram/xqt-mozilla.squashfs.zip)
http://www.thegrinder.ws/Meanies_XQT/cram/...ce.squashfs.zip (http://www.thegrinder.ws/Meanies_XQT/cram/xqt-openoffice.squashfs.zip)
http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/stu...0_0.4.7_arm.zip (http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/stuff/automounter-c3000_0.4.7_arm.zip)
2. extract all of these files into /mnt/card/QtPalmtop/xqt
(so one example is thie file /mnt/card/QtPalmtop/xqt/java.squashfs)
3. unzip automounter-c3000_0.4.7_arm.zip and install
automounter-c3000_0.4.7_arm.ipk
3.open up qconsole and here is the code to install these files.
------------------------------
su
cd /mnt/card/QtPalmtop/xqt/
./xqt-install.sh
------------------------------
then wait a minute or two. and its done. when terminal stops listing for a
while, reboot pda. when it reboots, do not get scared, leave pda alone. It's
working. then you see cacko. Create a swap file on sd so the xqt can use it.
I am running 16 because i don't use too much. then turn on the sd swap file
with your memory applet.
How to use
------------------------------
fn+stylus click on screen to open up tab.(can modify look in here too)
click on the menu button on your keyboard and hit fullscreen to go fullscreen. to get out of full screen, hit it twice and shutdown to close x environment.
next is pdaxrom.....in progress.
make sure you unmount sd card first before ejectingor it will lock the unit up.
if you need to eject the sd card or backup your zaurus, you need to do this first!
su
/etc/rc.d/init.d/mntloop stop
umount /mnt/card
do not umount if your backing up.
--------------------------------------------------------
being updated...
for editing, download simple edit. hold icon down and use root. this little program is powerfull text editor.
simple-edit_1.0.3_arm.ipk

what is so difficult about putting all the cramfs images onto the sd and run the install script?
anyway. if you wait a day or two, I am about to release the next major update which will also include Java 1.4 support and lots more apps as documented here:

yeah its not difficult meanie but it is from another's perspective. Your site is so full of information that you are making an encyclopedia and I even have alot of troubles just browsing through the immense valid information. I am surprised you have not gone mad! Not only that, all your sites are scattered and you gave everybody too many options to the point where i even get lost in looking for the updates.
AND I AM STILL WAITING ANXIOUSLY FOR THE UPDATES!

How do I do this part? I know a swap is something you use your hard drive like ram (that's my impression anyway). But how do I do this exactly?
This sounds like what I needed. So I do a fresh install of Cacko, then start these instructions? Also, I don't have an SD card reader for my computer, so can I do this from a CF card and just replace /mnt/card with /mnt/cf ??
Thanks,
Louis

Oh,
And meanie are you telling me that in a few days I can get all this stuff just by installing one magical package??

who said I wasn't mad?
hmm, well. I seem to keep adding stuff and did write very detailed instructions in the beginning but got lazy later on and the new stuff just got less detailed instructions. if you look at the pdaXrom stuff, hardly any instructions at all I was planning on adding a section in the OESF wiki on how to install pdaXqtrom, but haven't gotten to it yet. At least I have some documentation unlike some I think I need help though. I had started to build little howtos in the wiki but got sidetracked to build the jumbo packs. There is a limit of what one person can do. Maybe you can start a wiki entry instead of updating this thread.
well, hopefully by the end of this weekend it will be available, but this might not be since I have just been asked to go out to party so depends how drunk I get...

just wait for the updates flyguy! Then we will get started. I'll hold off too.

How do I use a cramfs image? Can I put in on an SD card? Can I try the current pdaxQTrom ?
