Title: Can I Use Usb Joypad Like Usb Keyboard?
Post by: csj0217 on May 11, 2006, 02:57:41 pm
Hello.
MY Z is SL-C3100.

I like to play emul games.
So I bought USB host cable, and USB Joysticks.

First, I found that old emulators don't support USB Joystick input.
I went to this page

http://www.piro.hopto.org/~piro/pukiwiki/p...%DF%A5%E5%5D%5D (http://www.piro.hopto.org/~piro/pukiwiki/pukiwiki.php?%5B%5Bzaurus%CD%D1%A5%A8%A5%DF%A5%E5%5D%5D)

And got emulators that was patched.

However, I don't understand why we do this stupid thing.

If Z changes signals of USB Joypad to Keyboard input (like a keyhelper), we don't need to make patched emulators.

Also, we can use USB Joypad as a remote controller when we read e-books or something.

Does anyone know how to change USB Joypad signals to keyboard signal?

Hello,
I am trying to do much the same, use a USB-joypad for a few classic NES (Znester).

I have Meanie's JoyEnabler installed and have tested the joystick with jstest (all OK), and even managed to get a few roms working with the ZNester-joy executable, although like csj0217 I have frustrated, since it only works in a small screen and much slower than the ZEmu packaged version.

I have downloaded the joy2key_z.tgz.txt file posted by sidmoraes in the referenced thread, removed the .txt extension extracted the two files using gzip and tar, and tried the following (as suggested)

cp joy2key-z /usr/local/bin/
chmod +x /usr/local/bin/joy2key-z
cp .joy2keyzrc /home/root
joy2key -config kbd1

I get the warning that "More buttons specified than joystick has!" - probably beacuse I am use a pretty basic joypad, and then "Initialization complete, entering main loop, ^C to exit...

...and - well that is it.  The joypad doesn't appear to junction in any way in any NES game, or replicate the arrow keys in an editor for example, which I expected.

I also tried without the config option and I am prompted to calibrate three axes which all seems OK, but again once the main loop is entered nothing seems to happen".

Any suggestions on where I have gone wrong?
Thanks and regards,
Marcus

Hi,

I have a sl-c3200 running the sharp rom.

I have got my joypad working as far as the Z is concerned - it tests fine as /dev/js0

However I want to use something to map the joypad inputs to the keyboard for two reasons
1) The game emulators which have joystick support are SLOW
2) Some game emulators don't have joystick support!

So I followed the setup in the joy2key thread and installed joy2key but no matter what I do joy2key doesn't seem to pass any inputs to any other programs.

For example I run
joy2key -config kbd1

I get the usual guff about it starting up and not being an official version and it says ^C to exit.

So I run Zeditor and press all the buttons on my joystick and nothing happens....

I've tried a few different configs or even specifying my own but nothing seems to work.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,

Puffer
