Hi,
i found mallums images for running gpe on Z 5500.
(from http://handhelds.org/~mallum/xpkgs/) (http://handhelds.org/~mallum/xpkgs/))
I flashed my Z, everything worked fine, got matchbox
and a minimal installation with only a terminal.
then i wanted to install gpe. some attempts (and flashes)
later i had installed some packages from the latest
familiar unstable feed. but it did not work well, some programs
did not start, the x server sometimes crashed and so on...
I think the reason is, that mallums images were created using
cvs familiar some time ago and now the newer releases are
incompatible.....
I really like the idea of having X11/gpe on my Z....
So, are there any attempts to port familiar to
Z5500? After extensive searches on google i did not
find suitable information on how to port familiar.... i think
there are bootloader problems with familiar on Z
(mallum used OZ for that). If anyone can point me to some
information how to start porting familiar to Z, i will try it myself
(although i am not really experienced with porting)...
A short howto how i create images like mallum\'s (OZ/familiar combined) myself would also be very welcome.
greetings,
Holger

You\'ll probably find a HowTo for creating initrd.bins in the HowTos section here (otherwise there used to be one on the devnet - or linked from there - wherever the source code was originally available from.
Rather than trying to port familiar you\'d be better off looking at OZ and completing the integration of X11 and the GTK libs, then bringing the GPE apps across to use the OZ X11 libs, etc. This is something I plan to look at once I\'ve sorted out my OE environment.

Great. We would like to see GPE as a GUI option on future OpenEmbedded/Zaurus releases.
