Title: Cheapest CompactFlash SD cards?
Post by: lenk on February 24, 2004, 08:35:43 pm
Hi...where can I buy cheapest lexar compactflash and SD cards online? I checked on ebay, but can\'t seem to find a lexar 512MB SD. I would rather buy the CF and SD together and save on shipping since I am on the outside of the pond, england ofcourse. Cheers.

I am very reluctant to try Sandisk since there are so many problems reported. Does the Sandisk SD have same problem as the Sandisk CF? seems like lexar is the most recommended brand on this forum.

The cheapest I found are SanDisk from local Csotco. Never had any problems with them on C760

www.pricewatch.com has a whole category for Memory ] Flash.  Under Secure Digital 512mb you should be able to find Lexar--then it\'s just a matter of finding a retailer who will ship across the pond.

Thus far, I haven\'t really had any problems with either the SanDisk CF or SD cards, having them for about a few weeks now.  I have other SanDisk readers (one for the new sony memory stick pro and the 6-in-1 reader, the former for months now) and I have yet to encounter any problem or defect in workmanship.

Lexar is a reliable brand though (I do have their Sony Memory Stick cards) and they do make some pretty good products -- regrettably, one of their readers does not work in *nix, therefore I don\'t use it too much anymore except on the only Windoze XP machine in the house.

Since you\'re here in bright sunny England, why not use http://www.expansys.com/ (http://www.expansys.com/)? It might be a little more expensive, but if there is any problems it\'ll be easy to get a replacement.
And, no I do not work for them, I\'ve bought quite a few things off them, including my Zaurus, and they\'ve been great.
Current prices
256mb SD - £57.45
512mb SD - £127.95
256mb CF - £41.95
512mb CF - £83.45
3gb CF - £1011.45

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Ca...egory_flash.asp (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Category/category_flash.asp)

Tiger ships to GB, and while I don\'t know the shipping charges, I do know their prices are pretty good. Prices with an asterisk are after a rebate.
I have a Dane-elec CF 256, which has prooved reliable so far, and is very quick.

Here is a link to their info page for international orders.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/sectors/Help/in...national.asp#i3 (http://www.tigerdirect.com/sectors/Help/international.asp#i3)

with +/- $1.85/ one british pound, you should be able to do pretty well, even with extra shipping costs.

Good luck!

Thanks alot.....amazon.co.uk selling the lexar 512MB CF for only £75 + free shipping!!! I might try bid for a SD on ebay.

Mitch: Why would I wanna play 30%-40% more if I can get it cheaper! What are the chances of a good CF SD card breaking down.

I\'ve just received a \"Viking\" 64Mb SD from www.7dayshop.com (they are really cheap for photographic film) for £16.39, 256Mb is £46.49, works fine in my 5600. (256Mb CF is £36.19, not tested)
