Hi folks,
I've been trying on and off for the past one week, to get Chinese input / font display working on my C1000 running Cacko 1.23.
The Cacko ROM works Great! Thanks to the Cacko team ... I just need some pointers on setting it up to support Chinese input / font display.
I do *not* need the menus to be in Chinese. I just need text that I enter to appear with Chinese fonts and not the cute square blocks.
Thanks for any help.

Thanks for your tip! Let me clarify. As in copy the simsun ttf font from Windows to my C1000 and rename it?
Also, if that is what I should do, which directory should I copy it to?
Sorry, I'm a noob on linux stuffs ...

Goto Meanie's page, (located under his sig)
TTF fonts need to be converted to QPF to work natively on QTopia (Zaurus interface in Sharp/Cacko ROM).
Just do a search on Meanie's custom page for "QPF"
That should take you to the instructions.
Custom page here:

Once you have generated a new font, (actually 2 fonts, one for Portrait, one for Landscape), you need to copy them to a directory.
On my SL-C3100, the directory is: /opt/QtPalmtop/lib/fonts
Here are 2 more websites for converting fonts, I had to consult at least 2 sites to get it right.
Sorry, I cannot find the other "very easy to understand page", it's gone now.
Do a search here in the forums using 'qpf'
http://www.zaurususergroup.org/modules.php...g%20TTF%20Fonts (http://www.zaurususergroup.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpWiki&file=index&pagename=Converting%20TTF%20Fonts)

You might also find someone else's already converted files. Try googling for them. Once you find or convert them, you need to remove all the Helvetica fonts and rename your font files to the ones Helvetica had. This is if you want your system and all applications to be able to display chinese. Some applications are better written and actually have an option for you to select a different font. If you just want to use chinese with those applications, then all you need to do is copy the font files to /opt/QtPalmtop/lib/fonts
I only use Chinese in AbiWord and Firefox and those applications can actually use TTF fonts

Thanks Meanie and Jon for your tips! I finally got Chinese setup ... :D:D
I found some simsun fonts converted here ... http://www.linuxsky.net/fanx/zaurus/font/ (http://www.linuxsky.net/fanx/zaurus/font/)
a bit small, but it works ... will try converting some myself later to get larger fonts ...

good luck. but be careful, they use a lot of disk space so make sure you don't run out of space. they also use a lot of memory since fonts are cached in memory and the more fonts and the bigger your fonts, the more memory is used up.
