Title: Opie-mediaplayer Work In Sharp/cacko?
Post by: Jon_J on May 21, 2006, 07:40:05 pm
I've been trying to get this working on my C3100 with Cacko 1.23
I was all excited when I first found this player with a mod plugin, but it doesn't work.

I worked 2 hours, trying to make this work.
I'm confused as to why some "OPIE" apps work and others don't in Sharp/Cacko.
What is the requirement to get OPIE apps working in Sharp/Cacko?
Can anyone give advice or help for this mediaplayer?
opie reader works, opie datebook works...

I found the below files here:
http://opie.handhelds.org/feed/unsupported/1.0.3/sharprom/ (http://opie.handhelds.org/feed/unsupported/1.0.3/sharprom/)

Here is what I have done so far. I installed "opie-mediaplayer_1.0.3_arm.ipk"
and it's dependencies:
libopie1, opie-mediaplayer2-skin-default | opie-mediaplayer2-skin-default-landscape
All these installed with the GUI with no errors.
When I try to play a song, (mp3), it just throws me back to Qtopia and exits.

I need to get it to play any supported audio first before I try a MOD file.
I also installed the mod plugin, "opie-modplugin_2.0.2_arm.ipk"
Description: plugin to play MOD/XM/S3M/IT amiga tracker modules with the mediaplayer in the Opie environment.
opie-mediaplayer doesn't seem to recognize my *.mod files.

None of the other media players seem to recognize this plugin either.

I just found Opie-player2, but it won't play MODs
The package installs OK and mp3s play at 2x speed
But I'm not looking for mp3 playback with opie-player, (at least this version doesn't crash).
I got the complete package with all libs included, from here:
http://www.flagar.com/en/software.html (http://www.flagar.com/en/software.html)
I'm still looking for a way to get the older opie-mediaplayer to run without crashing.
opie-mediaplayer_1.0.3_arm.ipk
It's the ONLY version that uses the MOD plugin.
I got the player to finally recognize a MOD file in it's playlist, but it crashes no matter what you try to play.
mp3, hit play -> crash
mod, hit play -> crash
hit play button with no tracks/songs selected -> crash
What can I do?
Errors when launched in console:
Code: [Select]
$ opieplayer
Display size = 480x640
QPixmap::convertFromImage: Cannot convert a null image opieplayer

Enclosed pic shows MOD loaded in filebrowser. (s3m) This is opie-mediaplayer_1.0.3_arm.ipk
Thank you for reading this,
Jon

I don't want to use THAT version of opie-mediaplayer, that refers to opie-mediaplayer2
It won't play MODs with the mod plugin. opie-modplugin_2.0.2_arm.ipk
I want to get opie-mediaplayer_1.0.3_arm.ipk working, not the newer version "opie-mediaplayer2"
If I want to play mp3s or wavs, I can just use any of the newer players to play them.
Why would I want to use opie-palyer2 for that?

Again, opie-mediaplayer_1.0.3_arm.ipk is the only version that accepts the MOD plugin, and is the only version that I need to get working.

its opieplayer (version 1), that can play mod files, as well as mp3's and such. It uses the plugins.
op1 is still being maintained, and is very useful, and requires less memory to operate.

I replied to my post again because I couldn't get the above quote to go into my above post using the edit feature.

This confirms that only version 1 of opie-mediaplayer has the ability to play MODs with the plugin.
How do I get this version working?

Thankyou Meanie, I just found it. The readme says it needs to be compiled.
I have no experiance at this.
I'll read the readme further to see if it plays all tracker formats.
I'll just have to use my Palm to play these files.
There are 2 freeware players for Palm, and one is linux, but it has been tried before in Development-user-requested-applications forum here.

I think above links aren't the ones where someone actually tried to get this player working, I'll have to search further.
It looks like handango/sharp still has Ze Player. It plays these modules.
Problem is, I don't have a way to send them my $10 (I wish I could find this stuff in a local store).
http://www.handango.com//sharp/PlatformPro...sortParams=true (http://www.handango.com//sharp/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?catalog=0&jid=47C1B1A2ED69X16EFAF97618333F6C58&platformId=9&productId=33382&productType=2§ionId=0&siteId=423&zsortParams=true)
http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=256 (http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=256)

Does this mean that the problem with opie-player ver 1, "opie-mediaplayer_1.0.3_arm.ipk" is unsolvable??
If Meanie suggests a different player, then it must be unsolvable...

Meanie, Thank you, I sure would like to try it.
Does it require X/QT or pdaXqtrom? or will it play MODs/XMs/s3m's in Sharp/Cacko?
I don't have pdaXqtrom installed at the moment, and I still need to download the newer version.
If pdaXqtrom is necessary, I'll fetch it and try xmms

BTW, of all  MODs, (MODules), s3m is the best sounding variation.
That's what I play the most.

i just tried playing it and it works  but takes a while to load.
its a xmms plugin so you will need x/qt to run xmms
however, its not available for download yet. it will be part of pdaxqtrom 0.7.9 which I am still working on. been busy with lots of other stuff but got flash player and plugin for firefox compiled too.
