Title: Video Locks Up My Zaurus :(
Post by: Jon_J on June 06, 2006, 07:03:30 pm
I used PocketDivXEncoder 0.3.60 to re-encode the below video.
It plays fine on my windows PC and mediaplayer classic 6.4.8.2
When I try to play it back on my C3100, Kino2 just skips the file.
If I try to play it again in Kino2, my 'Z' locks up to a white screen with one thin vertical line at 1/3rd from left side.
I have to remove the battery cover and reset my 'Z'
I used settings recommended here on the forums, using PocketDivXEncoder.
I used Palm Tungston settings.
(I couldn't figure out how to crop the video to the recommended size)
I attached the output video here in a zip file.
I haven't had any luck re-encoding video for my Z, since I first bought it.
None of my videos are DVD, they are all unusual formats/settings videos
This video was made with a capture program, which captures live video from games.

I tried it, you should use virtual dub and redo this.  the audio codec is mad and should be lame instead.

ill redo the file and post it here.  give me a sec..it is 4:48pm pst.

you know what, even my program crashed.  change the settings

i have the original, but it's 151mb. I won't post that here.
How do I make sure lame is used when re-encoding?

mad decoding is integer mp3, isn't it?  should work fine  at least using mad to decode lame encoded mp3 stuff works well.

try to keep your audio at 48 or 24 khz..for some reason the Z seems to like that better

I tried re-encoding it using some Palm processor settings in virtualdub, but I seem to have lost the necessory filters to make those work.
I thought pocketdivxencoder was just supposed to work.

its not going to be the mad codec.  I was thinking it was till i actually reencoded it and it crashed my virtual dub.  It is the resolution you need to change or the video codec.

I'll try to play the file you posted, if that works, should mine work if I use pda setting in pocketdivxencoder?

your file works, although there is no motion. I'll try re-encoding using pda 320x240 setting.
I thought 640x480 would be better, that's what I've heard

the sound goes out of sync, and changes it somewhat on my desktop, i'll try my zaurus

It doesn't play very well.
It is very small and only plays several frames.
It plays about every 10th or 20th frame out of 330 frames.
It jumps from one part to another, it's basically unusable.

actually, it added more frames.
original 151mb file is 330 frames
this one is 497 frames (this file is 733kb)

I turned off [drop frames] in kino settings.
The file plays OK now, but it is tiny at 320x240

trying pocketPC-vga 640x480 setting now.

no--use view...scale to full screen in kino.

pocketPC-vga looks a lot better, but it plays in slow motion, and the sound is completely finished before the video starts playing.
I have been using 24000 khz for mp3 as adf suggested

I did that with the 320x240 version, it has a bunch of vertical lines through it like a closeup of a TV, except in vertical.

At least it plays now, the 640x480 version looks beautiful, but it doesn't play very well. (This is without using the scale to full screen)

prefferences use under options for mplayer -vm -fs

i kinda like this software, makes videos look blurry compared to mines but its very small.  I preffer size over quality.

What do those settings do?
I just wanted to know, is there a refrence for all the settings for mplayer?
Thank you very much Cresho for hanging in there with me

after using kino for awhile, it made my taskbar turn all black. I had to restart Qtopia to restore the taskbar.
I also overclock video playback to Turbo (624/208/104 MHz)

if the commands did that, remove it.

Using the rotate setting described in this post, makes my 640x480 version play at almost realtime, except it's upside down.
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=19543 (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=19543)

I didn't launch from the console as this post suggests. I just played it in Kino2.

There is a remarkable difference between the original video re-encoded in pocketdivxencoder with the rotation changed by 2 clicks, and the original video re-encoded without changing the rotation.
All other options are the same.

This happens because mplayer writes to the framebuffer but doesn't "erase" afterwards. You don't need to restart Qtopia, simply open some app that goes fullscreen (terminal, photostorage slideshow, etc...) and when you close the app, your taskbar will be restored.

Another way is to flip the screen because in this case the taskbar will be rebuilt. But it is really annoying for me. Another thing is: it is not possible to play video-playlists. Audio is no problem, bu if I try with videos only the first will play, the others will be skipped. Does anybody have the same problem or a solution?
