when this technology is mainstream it's going to give us awesome battery lives in PDAs as they can spend their life in standby more often.
on the other hand, maybe OLEDs which don't wear out too quickly will make it first?

OLEDs may make it first since they currently have 3~5 yrs lifespan ... which make them somewhat ideal for PDAs ... assuming most pda users change their pdas once every 3~4 yrs?
Actually the current eink would be ideal for my usage as I don't need to watch movie on my Zaurus. My main usage is reading ebooks in html or txt format on it and keying in notes. I use PIM on and off and in any case PIM functions do not require fast refresh. So if my Zaurus has an eink display ... it would be really great!
oh btw, the $100 laptop is supposed to have a dual-mode display that basically has an eink display stacked over a colour LCD. It allows the laptop to be used as an ebook using the eink display and can switch to the normal colour LCD for "normal" pc use.
Such a display would be really good for pdas like our Zaurus. Potentially, it could bump up the batt life by 10~20%?

Doesn't sony already have a pda out in Japan that has an oled display? I remember something about that back when I still used palmos.
