Title: Sharp Camera Troubles In Cacko 1.23
Post by: cageycruz on June 18, 2006, 02:17:36 am
I'm having trouble with the qpie-camera-ja_1.5.0-10_arm.ipk after flashing with Cracko 1.23 lite on my C760.

The flash went fine, I got wireless networking set up and added a bunch of packages from the Cracko mirror feed, and they all work. But putting in the Sharp Camera CE-AG06 CF card and tapping the Camera icon produces only a very TINY display, about 1/10 of the screen, with the camera image, pop up menus for setting resolution and format, and a tiny shutter button.

I've used this application and camera before, under Sharp ROM, and the display normally fills the screen in portrait mode.

I'd really like to get a camera application working for my Z. But with the image so small I can't focus the lens.

Trying to anticipate your questions:
I installed the package to internal flash with the GUI from the Cracko mirror feed. System Info says 61Mb used out of 91Mb total.

I tried uninstalling then reinstalling from the command line. Went fine, no errors reported. But same problem running it.

I tried fiddling with the /home/QtPalmtop/apps/Applications/camera.desktop file: edited the line Display=640x480/144dpi, 480x640/144dpi to other numbers. No effect.

I tried installing Opie Camera 1.2.1 instead by stripping apart the Debian ipkg and making a Zaurus ipkg. Install went OK, but the program starts displaying some menus then dies.

Did some reading here and learned of some work on getting other CF cameras to work. I'd really like to get the Pretec camera working, so if anyone knows more about that...

Does it have something to do with the pacakge being Japanese (which I only infer from the "ja" in the package name)? Searched for an "en" version but couldn't find any.

I've got the same problem with this app, on my 860 running CACkO 1.23 full. If I try to get a full-screen view of what's oncamera, it freezes the Z. I have to reboot.

I've got some fairly pretty shots anyway.

Cool to see people are still using Opie-Camera. I always wanted to patch it to work better on VGA models, but since we're using kernel 2.6 in OZ now and the camera won't work there, I didn't pursue this any further :/

Thanks penguinsam, that version of Opiecamera works!

I installed all 4 pkgs at that link using the command line:Then used the shutdown app to restart Qtopia. OpieCam appeared in the Applications tab, and it seems to work.

The version I tried earlier had just 3 packages:This one didn't work for me. Maybe I was missing libopiecore or maybe it's just that the earlier version (1.0.1) works but the latter (1.2.1) does not.

Anyone out there doing development on camera software let me suggest a feature: self timer. Click the button and the software waits 10 seconds before taking the picture. I know, I should learn how to program and do it myself.

Hate to bring up a dinosaur topic ('zaurus' *snicker*), but does anyone have these packages backed up anywhere? The Opie feeds are dead and I can't find this rev of the camera application anywhere!

I have never used this camera, but have these files in a backup.

1. opie-camera.zip
    * libopie1_0.9.9-20030718.1_arm.ipk
    * libopie2_1.8.1-20030718.2_arm.ipk
    * libopiecore2_1.8.1-20031104.2_arm.ipk
    * opie-camera_1.0.1-20031104_arm.ipk

2. Sharp-CF-camera.zip
     *Additional Sharp camera related files, including a couple pdaxrom camera related files

Wow Jon thanks for the super fast reply!
I'm making progress with this! The application came up but now whenever I hit the snap button I get 'ERROR!' to show up in the taskbar. Guess I'll have to play around.

Oh and running it as root totally did not work. Forced me to reboot. *sigh* Still I try! Even though there is a much better camera in my gear bag right next to the Z, but you guys know how it is.

You could try some of the packages in the Angstrom/OZ feeds. I don't think they'll work, but they might be worth a shot.

You could also try Angstrom/Opie, if there's nothing tying you to Cacko.

PS- Yes, I know exactly how it is. I have 2 desktops, a laptop, and 2 Zaurii running Linux quite nicely, yet I'm still trying to get Angstrom running on my iPAQ (no, the ready-and-working handhelds.org build isn't good enough) .

Ditto here friend, I have 3 Zauri specifically for play. Not to mention that for small high traffic devices like this, experience taught me to keep a spare unit, 'just in case'.

I'm still playing around with the camera. Haven't looked into Angstrom, but I may. I'm also trying to get a USB EVDO modem working with the Zaurus and I don't think it's going to happen with Cacko. Everything I've read tells me I need the 2.6 kernel. But I'm no linux guru so who knows! If I can get that working in Angstrom and maintain some of the functionality that the Cacko's got, I might switch it to my main machine.
